TCSF loves a good event to raise awareness and funds for financially disadvantaged students to attend safe, quality, values-based schools. Our annual Sporting Clays Classic did not disapoint. Thank you to all that came out, we can't wait for the next opportunity to visit with supporters and share our story.

Not having a uniform can be a major barrier to a child attending school. So together with School-Home Support and Dixons Academies Trust, we continue to run our School Uniform Fund which, to date, has supported over a thousand beneficiaries. This fund is available to children in Bradford, Blackpool, Liverpool and Manchester enabling them to buy the essential clothing that they need to attend school and be ready to learn. It’s deeply concerning that some children could be lost to education just because they don’t have the clothes they need, with the cost-of-living crisis putting additional pressures on parents and carers. School uniforms, in some cases, can cost as much as £300. Read more about our School Uniform Fund here: https://lnkd.in/eQ2hr4Za

🗓️ Last week, I had the privilege of attending The PTI's Festival Day to witness the impactful work made possible by the RSM UK Foundation's funding. 👩🏻🏫 The PTI charity plays a crucial role in supporting teachers at all career stages through a variety of professional development courses. These subject-focused CPD events empower teachers to enhance their students' learning experiences, ultimately improving many pupils' lives. 🧮 With my background in accountancy, I naturally gravitated towards the mathematics offering at the Festival Day. 🤩 One highlight was an insightful statistics lecture by Paul Cannon from Jesus College, Cambridge. ❓ Here's a question to ponder: If a mother has two children and one is a girl, the probability of the other one being a girl is 0.5. Share your thoughts below! (Ignore small variations from the 50-50 gender ratios and assume binary genders) (I'll share the answer in a a future post. I got it wrong, which justifies my decision many years ago to part company with maths as a subject after A-Level!) #charities #education #statistics

Empowering dreams, one score at a time! 📚🌟 From 2019-2022, low-income students in Illinois scored 29-38% lower on the SAT than their non low-income peers. At E.R.E., we provide academic tutoring to fill in gaps in learning, as well as standardized test prep coaching to help prepare students for essential assessments like the SAT. 💪📖 So far, E.R.E. has helped 16 students prepare for the PSAT/SAT, raising their scores in all sections. One student reported, "I started with a 45% after my first PSAT taken with the program, and by the end, I increased my writing and language to an 87%." Great to see these practical changes to address two barriers faced by under-resourced students. A £28.50 fee is a lot of money for many people - especially if you're not confident that your higher education applications will even be successful; And published grade requirements for courses can be misleading - nearly half of applicants who sit 3 or more A levels were admitted with grades lower than published requirements, but until now you've had to be in the know to know that. There's much more we need to do to make higher education genuinely open to all but hurrah for these two changes which will make a difference
📢With the aim of removing the initial financial hurdle to attending university or college, today we’ve announced that UCAS is waiving the application fee for students who are currently receiving or have been in receipt of free school meals over the past six years. 📈 In a recent survey, we found nearly two in three teachers agreed that waiving the application fee would help free school meal students to progress to higher education. This is one of two new initiatives that UCAS has announced today to support disadvantaged students to discover and apply to higher education. As an independent charity, ensuring all students have greater opportunity to explore their higher education choices is at our core and we’re committed to supporting students of all backgrounds to access higher education. ➡️Read about our announcement: https://lnkd.in/e2THj2Vs 📽️ Hear from our Schools’ Lead, Samantha Sykes and Interim Principal at All Saints' Academy, Cheltenham, Liam Wilkinson in our video below.
