Thanks IRS...   The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports: "In a potentially widespread error, the Internal Revenue Service has apparently transmitted tax return data for nonprofits that misreports organizations' finances for 2022 -- a glitch that could pose a barrier for charities seeking to secure donations or government grants."   As we all know, these listings are relied upon by donors and other investors to assess a nonprofit's financial health before making a grant or gift.    At this point, it's not clear how many non-profits are affected but it may be worth checking your organization's listing on Candid and ProPublica for errors. Data has shown that DAF's are a midrange philanthropic vehicle, supporting donations larger than that of the average household, but smaller than those of private foundations. According to a recent study by the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy, data shows: 38% of recent DAF contributions are between $10,000 - $49,999,  15% of DAF contributions are between $50,000 - $99,999, and  19% of FAF contributions are between $100,000 - $499,999. Some light Friday reading! Have you read the 72-page National Study on DAFs by the DAF Research Collaborative? Here are a few things I found interesting: 1) Nearly all DAFs had a succession plan (92%) 2) There's a section specifically dedicated to institutional DAFs which made up only 3% of DAF accounts in the study. I anticipate this number has significantly increased over 2023-2024. 3) This report used the following formula to calculate payout: Grants ÷ (Beginning of Year Assets + Contributions) = Payout Rate Unlike Candid's payout rate calculator which uses the following: Grants ÷ Previous Year’s Charitable Assets = Payout Rate (results in a higher payout rate) https://lnkd.in/gQdcXC-r #DAFs #DAFRC #DonorAdvisedFunds
