We kicked off Tribeca’s new creators pillar and partnership with Whalar with a compelling panel featuring filmmaker Archie Gips and creators Brandon Edelman and Coco Mocoe.
Jack Conte surprised us all last week at SXSW by sharing an interesting take on the #YouTubeNewWave
But first, what is the YouTube New Wave?
Ryan Ng first described it as "A film movement aiming to democratize storytelling by recognizing popular social media genres, like vlogging, as a respected medium of artistic expression, on the same level as painting and literature."
➡️ What does a world look like where anyone, anywhere can tell stories with the tools they have in their bedroom? I think It looks like a world where people can use the internet as a tool to add more color, rather than add more noise.
Currently, there's a massive gap in infrastructure and support for these communities. So, how can we better equip and empower the next generation of storytellers, artists, and bedroom filmmakers?
I believe It all starts with community. Then, it's about finding the right mix of education and resources to help creators flourish. Jack has done an incredible job at being a pioneer in helping creatives with Patreon, but I believe so much more can be done.
What does "more" look like? Well, at Creator Camp, we're on a mission to find out.
Stay Tuned. 🏕️

Letterboxd is one to watch this year. 🍿
The beloved platform for film aficionados was acquired by Tiny earlier this year, the distinguished Canadian holding company, in a deal valued at over $50 million. This marked a new chapter for Letterboxd’s vibrant community and it seems to be going from strength to strength.
Founded in 2011 by a couple of visionary entrepreneurs in New Zealand, Letterboxd has become the go-to hub for over 10 million registered users, including notable figures like Margot Robbie, Olivia Rodrigo, Ava DuVernay, and Christopher McQuarrie. Its popularity soared during the challenges of the COVID pandemic, solidifying its status as the "Goodreads for movies."
As Letterboxd plans to leverage Tiny's ownership to further establish itself as the leading social network for film buffs worldwide, we expect exciting, community-focused advertisement opportunities in the pipeline.
We hope everyone had a wonderful festive break — here’s a list of Letterboxd's crew's '40 Most Anticipated Films for 2024'. Have a great year, one and all.
