News, from Nottingham City Transport, of yet more BEV buses going into service - 24 single deckers on Monday 8 April, with another 24 in early 2025, followed by 20 double-deckers in 2026, out of a total fleet size of about 300 buses, and aiming to be 100% tail-pipe-emissions-free by 2028. An interesting detail in the publicity is that, as of November 2023, there were 2,776 BEV buses in service in the UK, and only 131 hydrogen buses. Like Lothian Buses, NCT is a public sector operator, and locally-owned. Full details at https://lnkd.in/ebe82BMC . "How many miles can these new electric buses do in a single charge? 250-275 miles, which is enough to cover a full day in service. The electric buses we’re buying have been used in the UK since 2018 and we’ve visited operators who are already using them, who back up their range including in the winter." "How do you charge the electric buses? The buses are charged overnight, using electric charging infrastructure installed at our Trent Bridge Garage. This charging infrastructure draws its electricity from the National Grid, just like most homes and businesses. Dedicated cables were installed into our garage during the summer of 2023. Introducing electric buses allows us to further reduce the amount of diesel we consume, which means fewer diesel tankers visiting us and lower emissions." "How many Zero-Emission buses are there in the UK? As at November 2023, there are 2,907 zero emission buses in the UK: - 2,776 battery electric - 131 hydrogen fuel cell Ahead of our 24 new electric buses entering service, Nottingham already has the fifth highest number of battery electric buses in England outside London."
We are pleased to announce that our new electric buses will be entering service from tomorrow, Monday 8th April, starting with the Red 50 route! 🚌🥳 Keep an eye out as they'll soon be carrying passengers on Nottingham’s streets on the Pink 30 and Blue 39 routes too! 👀 For more information on our electric buses, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eFbJYhmm

Instances of fires initiated by lithium-ion batteries, which power e-bikes, continue to be on the rise. As crucial as these devices are to cities across the country, they pose severe risks when not used properly. That’s why we are proud to sponsor the League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Summit, where we will highlight the need for voluntary adoption of safety standards for e-bikes, which offer a layer of protection for the consumer who is largely unaware of their risks.
