Can Down syndrome be inherited? Only 1% of all Down syndrome cases are passed from a parent to a child. So, in 99% of cases, Down syndrome doesn’t run in the family. But all families of different races or ethnic backgrounds can have a child with DS. And that’s why it's important that we continue to focus on research that can lead to scientific discoveries that improve the quality of life for those with DS. At DSA, our story started with a boy named Cal, who was born into a family with no history of DS. Join us in our mission to advocate for DS research. Whatever amount you choose, you can begin donating monthly. Set up a recurring donation at: https://lnkd.in/ghSDqNxE #nonprofit #downsyndrome #downsyndromeresearch #research

Excited to have the opportunity to volunteer with RMHC. Research indicates supporting the entire family during a child’s critical illness can improve resilience, reduce stress and enhance wellbeing for several crucial reasons: ✅ Emotional Well-Being: A child’s illness affects the entire family - parents, siblings, and extended family members experience stress, anxiety, and fear. ✅ Practical Assistance: Supporting the whole family enables the sharing of responsibilities to alleviate the daily burden of families managing critical illnesses. ✅ Financial Strain: Community resources, counselling, and financial aid can ease the burden of medical expenses. ✅ Sibling Support: Emotional support for siblings of critically ill children can ease related disruption and anxiety. ✅ Parental Health: Support for parents to assist in the maintenance of their own physical and mental health can assist in the provision of better care. ✅ Family Dynamics: Critical illnesses strain family relationships. Open communication, counselling, and support groups can help maintain healthy dynamics and ease the strain on family relationships. ✅ Child’s Recovery: Improved positive health outcomes have been linked to the provision of a supportive family environment.
While big brother Aidan is in the hospital, the Kam family have a warm, comforting place to stay close to him at RMHC Toronto. "When I'm at the hospital, I'm so grateful to know my littlest ones are just a short walk away with their dad, and I don’t have a long drive home at night," says mom, Aimee. "And thanks to RMHC Toronto’s meal program. I know that my family is eating well, too, when I can’t be around to cook." Your support is life-changing for families like the Kams. There's only 5 days left to double your donation to MQ! That's double our opportunity to create more life-changing discoveries and support for those who need it most. Double the research, double the impact. Since 2013, we have invested £30m into 65 research projects across six continents; for every £1 MQ invests in supporting research, an additional £5.78 is generated. With your help, we will drive new discoveries, including a new intervention, with a 90% recovery rate preventing PTSD from taking hold in healthcare workers, and new school guidelines on bullying and #MentalHealth in England and Wales. Help change the future for millions of people: https://lnkd.in/gH-cTvQr
