Our #MappingJustice Hawai'i students are finishing up their final #capstone projects and are ready to present at our in-person showcase event this Saturday, August 10 in Honolulu... and you're invited! RSVP to our in-person showcase to come see the #goodtrubel they’ve gotten into this summer 👀 Here are just a few topics they’re researching: 🌍 How does a region's GDP per capita relate to damage caused by environmental disasters? 🌿 How do fumigants affect the ecological and social climate on O'ahu? 🐠 How does coral bleaching impact both human and marine communities? 🚜 How have agricultural practices impacted the water quality of Hawaii? 🍽️ How does food insecurity impact Maui following a natural disaster? 🌊 How do rising sea levels harm communities and the environment on O'ahu? This work couldn't have been done without our instructional team (Tessie Ford and Justin Kellum) -- Thank you for your dedication and care! #esri #STEAM #climatejustice https://lnkd.in/eRgabeDa

This is a good idea to implement in India as well. Coastal data collected through citizen science initiatives plays a crucial role in understanding and preserving marine environments. These efforts harness the observations and insights of local communities, providing valuable information about coastal ecosystems that may otherwise go unrecorded. By engaging citizens in the process of data collection, these initiatives foster a sense of stewardship and raise awareness about environmental issues impacting coastal areas. Furthermore, the diverse perspectives and experiences of citizen scientists contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of ecological changes, such as the effects of climate change, pollution, and habitat degradation. This grassroots approach not only enhances scientific research but also empowers communities to advocate for sustainable practices and policies, ultimately leading to healthier and more resilient coastal ecosystems. My research focuses on using such data in shoreline change prediction and can be extended further to use such information available from different sources.

A regenerative learning practice is based on a systemic approach, which contemplates life and being human holistically, integrating multiple intelligences to its methodology and experiences. Still, our current education system tends to focus on learning mainly trough our rational minds while ignoring our heart and body's intelligence. This is reinforced by a way of living that leaves no space for us to truly experience life, connect and listen to this inner voice that has so much to say and teach us. If we want to find a way through this multi-crisis we experience, we must reconnect and learn with our full potential, so we can innovate and find new and better ways to live in harmony. Tomorrow, 10th of April, at 8h30, we get together once again at Impact Hub Zürich Collab to dive into "Intuitive Intelligence", knowing without thinking. We will together explore intuition from an "ecological" perspective and discuss its importance in learning and education. 🌱 You can join us, there is no need for registration. Looking forward to seeing you there!
This morning Diana Cianelli Gabriel and I exchanged on our upcoming community meeting this Wednesday at the Impact Hub Zürich, which makes me really excited. We will dive into the topic of „Intuitive Intellegince“ - knowing without thinking. But where does this knowing come from and how can we perceive it? And when we bring this into the context of our community „Learning and Education for Sustainable Development“: How can intuition facilitate learning? How can learning facilitate intuition? During this session we will: - Practice presence and connect to our own intuition, - Discuss intuition from different perspectives, including from a "deep ecology" one. - Leave space for emergence, share experiences and related references. If this speaks to you, join us this Wednesday in our Community of Practice „Learning and Education for Sustainable Development“ . Diya Kanoria Anna De Mezzo Wailea Zuelch https://lnkd.in/dNAcjfBN

Throw a stone into the still glistening water and watch the ripple effects! Fascinatingly beautiful, how a single influence can radiate so far. This is what happens when we work with your school. Not only do we help your youth find their purpose in nature, but we also help children who would never have the opportunity, but are incredibly important to understand how the web of nature flows and what they can do to make a difference.Thank you #FisherFoundation for making this opportunity become a reality. https://lnkd.in/d8Ad_9Kz

Together Outdoors Expands Inclusive Micro-Grant Program to Foster Diversity in Outdoor Recreation, Calls for Applications Washington, D.C. – February 21 – Together Outdoors (TO) announced the opening of the application period of its Inclusive Micro-Grant Program, a new initiative aimed at bolstering capacity for small and rural #grassroots organizations that are key to creating a more #inclusive and welcoming outdoor recreation environment. This unique program, in addition to TO’s overall efforts, is made possible thanks to foundational support from THOR Industries, Inc. The 2024 Inclusive Micro-Grant Program is poised to continue the great support started in 2022 and will focus on two key areas: 1. Research + Resources: Financial backing for projects developing research and resources that facilitate inclusion outdoors. This includes the creation of educational toolkits, multimedia content, and translation services to ensure accessibility for all. 2. Activating Change Outdoors: Support for outdoor recreation programming, events, and leadership development initiatives specifically designed to empower communities of color, LGBTQIA+, individuals in underserved regions, people with disabilities, and other intersecting minority groups. Together Outdoors invites grassroots organizations that embody these focus areas and share our vision for a diverse outdoor community to apply for the Inclusive Micro-Grant Program. Organizations are encouraged to apply to the inaugural grant round by March 11, 2024. Application materials should be submitted via email to Ambreen Tariq, Together Outdoors Coalition Lead at togetheroutdoors@recreationroundtable.org. To view the application process, timeline and grant reporting requirements visit https://lnkd.in/eY3SS8qa #outdoorrecreationroundtable #microgrant #DiversityInTheOutdoors #togetheroutdoors #submissionsopen

As the impact of climate change leads to more frequent and severe natural disasters, investing in updated building codes will save billions in repairs. 📌Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the nonprofit National Institute for Building Sciences have found that for every $1 spent on conforming to the 2018 ICC code, $11 in damage costs are saved. 📌A 2020 FEMA study found that 65% of counties, cities and towns across the country have not adopted the most recent building codes and that 30% of new construction is happening in places that either have no code or have not updated theirs in 20 years. #BuildingCodes https://lnkd.in/gWUbB6VM

Interesting thoughts from Carey on the importance of supporting urban land reform including community re-use of vacant and derelict land and the dangers of over simplifying complex places by using urban and rural as catch all terms.
In our latest guest blog, Linsay Chalmers of Community Land Scotland analyses the key learning from a project supporting urban communities interested in land re-use, an area that our upcoming VDL review will highlight as requiring more action. Read the full blog on our website 👉https://lnkd.in/edEtjvXS Interested in more insight into addressing vacant and derelict land?
