"If I'm buying two or more fridges from a liquidation auction, I want a decent discount" Last week I looked at the effect of auction lot size on the recovery rate for the Electronics category. But what about larger items like Kitchen Appliances, do they show the same patterns? We looked at 2,798 lots (accounting for 7,113 items in total) sold publicly (B2B) in 2023 in the Kitchen Appliances category. We observed how the quantity in a lot effected the number of bids, and the selling price as a % of MSRP. 💡We found some interesting patterns, shown in the graphs below: ▶ Single item lots achieved a higher number of bids than grouped lots. ▶ Single item lots achieved significantly higher recovery rate than any other category, on average 26.7% of MSRP. ▶ Outside of this - for quantity of 2 up to 18 there was no link between reduced lot size and increased % of MSRP (and in fact there is a weak correlation to suggest the opposite: larger lot size = higher recovery rate). ⭐ So - if you can reduce your lots into single items, then go ahead, you'll see a significant uplift. ❗ But - if you're looking at reducing your lots sizes down to anything other than 1, don't bother - the time and expense to do this won't product a significant increase to the recovery rate. 📢 Have you seen patterns like this when selling kitchen appliances by auction?
