We often have newsrooms ask how to best gauge what their communities need from their news. Our go-to answer: Have you asked them lately? One easy, efficient way newsrooms can do this is a survey. But the not-so-easy part is *acting* on the feedback you hear.    We’re so impressed by how newsrooms involved in an Oklahoma Press Association project did this. The newsrooms: 1. asked what the community wanted from the newspaper 2. the newsroom compared those preferences to what they were offering 3. then the newsrooms immediately began to make changes to close the gaps between what the public wanted and what they were publishing. • "Knowing what the audience wants, and being able to show them at the end of the year how the paper changed its coverage based on reader feedback is a winning strategy." - Mark Thomas, Oklahoma Press Association
