📉 June 2024 Update: Beech Price Indices on the Decline The German producer price indices for beech logs have shown a significant downward trend in June 2024: 🔻 Log Wood: Decreased by -3.6% to 116.2 points. 🔻 B Qualities: Fell by -4.4% to 116 points, with 3m lengths down -7.3% to 97.1 points and 5m lengths down -3.0% to 121.1 points. While trying to get a head start on mechanical site preparation in Saratoga, TX, this D8 dozer sunk due to poor drainage. Standing stagnant water on the site can lead to anaerobic conditions (no oxygen), causing tree mortality. Mechanical site prep allows us to disk up soil and create an elevated mound, which enables seedlings to grow free of standing water during their most vulnerable growth period. The remedy for the sunken dozer? Wait for the ground conditions to dry for approximately two weeks before bringing in another D8 dozer and skidder to pull it out. Once ground conditions improved, the operator pushed dirt from other areas on site to fill in the rut.
