 Norwegian giant Statkraft is all geared up to acquire a new powerful asset - a 450 MW "water battery" project, located right next to the enigmatic Loch Ness, Scotland. This colossal venture is set to mark a significant uptick in their already prominent green tech portfolio. Reputed for supporting renewable energy sources, the "water battery" or 'Red John Pumped Storage Hydro Scheme' as it's known administratively, is quite the technical marvel. The facility works in concert with onshore wind farms and exclusively uses reversible turbines for its operation, thus stepping up the game for energy storage systems. The working principle is ingeniously simple yet effective. During times of excess power, water is pumped from a lower reservoir to an upper one, mimicking the nature of a giant water battery. When there's a power need, the turbines are reversed, and the stored water is released to generate the required power. Ingenious, isn't it?

Preem invests $527m to convert Lysekil oil refinery into renewables site Sweden’s largest fuel refiner Preem said it plans to invest additional SEK5.5bn (US$527.6m) to phase out fossil production from its Lysekil oil refinery in favour of renewable fuels for road and air transport. Great insights into the returns for IPP investors. This speaks to the maturity of the RSA market. These project returns flow through the corporate IPP to the ultimate providers of capital. Maximizing these returns for the investors requires efficiency at Project Asset-level = [max long-term generation + full compliance at least cost] in the management of the project asset; and IPP Corporate-level = [skilled project asset management at minimum cost] to ensure project asset-level efficiency across the portfolio of assets. This is where Investor & IPP interests meet Orion Asset Management

The Clean Energy Council has released a strategic package of 45 recommendations to the Federal Government to get Australia on track to reach its target of 82 per cent renewable energy by 2030.
