This past year has been one laced with growth. It's been one year since I joined Pernod Ricard and certainly, the first couple of months came with a potpourri of emotions: moving from settling into my new role to self-doubt, from pushing myself to eventually getting a hang of the demands of the role. Joining at a time when the organisation was going through a series of transformations, it appeared my teething phase lingered longer than I'd anticipated. Struggling to find my rhythm meant I occasionally doubted my abilities and contemplated throwing in the towel a couple of times. To get past this stage, two things worked for me. Firstly, in my subconscious, I was convinced that if I could endure, be consistent, push myself, and not give up, I'd come out stronger. Lastly, I had the support and cheering of those that mattered the most; my family and colleagues. Munirat Yahaya was that one person who kept believing in me. In fact, she opened my mind to cracking what I had thought impossible, and this was the beginning of me getting my groove back. I also enjoyed the immense support of my line manager - thank you, Bode Omosagba, for seeing the potential in me and for providing the required support all the way. I'm elated that the efforts I put into turning things around didn't go unnoticed as I clinched two awards at the FY23 company retreat and awards ceremony. Having won the CEO award and the "Deliver through collaboration" award, I'm motivated to continue to give my utmost best to contribute to the growth of the business. In Danone, we have 5 Behaviors as our guiding principles. They are Put Danone First, Keep It Simple, Be Accountable, Walk The Talk, and Lead with People. Something that sounds easy and simple. Achieving things that appear easy can be unexpectedly difficult. Making complex things simple is not an easy task. Putting the company's interests first, rather than personal agendas, is a challenging job. Following stated principles is not only hard but also requires courage and determination to achieve seemingly simple goals. If everyone adopts the culture as their guiding principle, corporate values will naturally become a part of daily life, not just words on slides or wallpaper. As a Danoner, we believe in it. As in Indonesia, the whole team has been on this journey for a while already and we are slowly harvesting what we sow some time ago.

The Power Of Resilience! Just over a month ago, we closed arguably the best fiscal year in the history of Pernod Ricard Kenya. This was defined by the amazing results delivered by the team, growing ~20% volume and ~60% value in an incredibly turbulent period, delivering disproportionate premiumization, profitable business continuity and sustainability. In a year the region (and country) went through very defining organizational changes for a quarter, a new team ‘storming, forming and norming’ for another quarter, the resilience shown by the team has been simply commendable. Some key highlights of the year include: 1. Achieving market leadership in Cognac with Martell. 2. Reinforcing Jameson by almost doubling Jameson Black Barrel Volume and Value. 3. Acceleration in luxury and prestige with significant value growth with The Glenlivet. 4. Reestablishng Belaire as the go to bubbly for the nightlife and flex moments, etc. As we continue our journey to market leadership, by outgrowing our peers/competitors, we are committed to leveraging arguably the best portfolio in the industry to provide our consumers the best products supported by the experiences. We are building the best team in the industry, one that ensures everyone grows, everyone learns and everyone is rewarded. And, yes, this team will also ensure our company remains reputable and credible in Kenya, with all our partners and stakeholders. We will do all of this whilst having fun with ‘good times from a good place’ remaining our mantra everyday and everywhere . The new fiscal year has started with clarity of ambition, as defined by all of us in our recent team meetings, we believe in our dream, we will achieve our ambition(s). We will make magic! 🐣 Celebrate Easter Sustainably 🍃 🍃 Here’s a few eco-friendly Easter tips for a sustainable celebration: ♻️ Opt for Ethical, low-Waste Chocolate Eggs: It just wouldn’t be Easter without a chocolate egg! Thanks to public pressure, many brands and supermarkets have removed all plastic packing from their Easter Eggs - look out for recyclable or compostable packaging. If you wish to go that bit further, also look for brands offering Fairtrade and/or vegan chocolate eggs. 🌿 Make Your Own Easter Cards and Decorations: Go green and make your own Easter cards and decorations. Use recycled paper or card - get creative with natural materials like dried flowers and leaves or repurpose items from your recycling, for example egg boxes! Use sustainably sourced branches to make a table centrepiece or invest in reusable items, such as fabric bunting, that can be displayed year after year. 🍽️ Reduce Your Food Waste: When it comes to celebration meals, food waste is always an issue. To help save money and reduce food waste, plan your meals in advance, and avoid overbuying! Use up leftover Easter trimmings for another meal, or alternatively you can freeze certain foods - cooked potato can be frozen and stored for up to three months! Another eco-friendly way is to compost food scraps, helping to reduce your environmental impact. 👒 Sustainable Easter Outfits Dressing up for Easter? Success is not a moment in time, it’s a journey. And it requires sustained energy and motivation. So in recent weeks, our team has been exploring how we achieve both high and ‘optimal’ performance - considering not just occasional peaks but also sustained excellence. While all of us naturally cannot be at our best 100% of the time, each of us has the capacity to attain optimal performance. Last week's visit to one of our Avolta distribution centers served as a poignant reminder of the journey I've undertaken, transitioning from the realm of hotels to the vibrant landscape of retail and F&B. As I navigated through the bustling corridors and engaged with our dedicated teams, it struck me how different the environments were, yet how interconnected they remained at their core. While the industries may vary in their nuances, the essence of my role has remained steadfast: to serve, support, and uplift our teams to achieve greatness both professionally and personally. How did Leap Day become a launchpad for transformation? Yesterday was a day of incredible fortune, as I had the privilege to facilitate a workshop for Pernod Ricard This French powerhouse has grown globally, boasting 19,000 employees and stewarding iconic brands like Ramazzotti, Havana Club, Absolut, Chivas Regal, Malibu, and Lillet. The recipe for an unforgettable workshop day included: 🏰 An inspiring location dubbed “Chateauform,” a facilitator’s paradise. 👏 A dream team of facilitators: my two besties Matilda Verney and Audrey Thouvenin complemented by 3 highly skilled in-house facilitators. 🥳 Precious moments to chat with participants, diving deep into the group’s history and the project’s significance. The true magic, however, stemmed from the collaboration and co-creation with Pernod Ricard’s exceptional change-management team and with Alexandre JUDGES ( btw we met via #linkedin) who trusted me with this contract, since he couldn’t make it that day..🙏🏻 thank you!! Leap Day marked the beginning of a major digital transformation project aimed at shaping the future of the group. We filled the day with impactful activities designed to: ✨ Foster cohesion among team members. ✨ Ignite collective intelligence. ✨ Lay a solid foundation with aligned objectives and goals. Let’s explore the impact of empowerment 💪 Kersia, inventing a food safe world ‘s Committed & Different Committee brings together 67 ambassadors within ~2,300 employees globally 🌍 who are committed to making change for the greater good. I went to my first Committed and Different event in Paris a few weeks ago and some key things really stood out to me. ❗There was no business-led hierarchy which allowed everyone to work together side by side, from the interns to the CEO 🤝 This means that there is a totally different dynamic. There is no need to get buy-in because everyone is already engaged and motivated. This led to quicker decision making, and stronger impact.  As team leaders we often think we know the best way of achieving an end goal. But this was my reminder that there is always a different way of doing things. Many roads lead to Rome (🚀be brave) Just imagine what’s possible when teams are empowered to own and address an issue or cause. Seeing how quickly our team members came together to support our colleagues in Brazil following the awful flooding in Rio Grande do Sul, is a great example of this. 🥳 From organising bake sales to wearing the colours of the Brazilian flag 🟢🟡🔵 someone even ran the Manchester 10k with two weeks’ notice 🏅 Often CSR can be a tick-box exercise but through this initiative, our team are the driving force for change.
