Following changes for EU citizens voting in the UK as part of The Elections Act 2022, we are legally required to carry out a review of all EU citizens on the borough’s electoral register. Anyone affected by these changes will be contacted so we can confirm their details and check if they are still eligible to vote in the local council and police and crime commissioner elections. Residents who have consented to receiving electoral registration updates by email will receive this request by email from electoral.services@basingstoke.gov.uk. This is not a scam. The quickest way to confirm eligibility is by confirming online or returning the form. More information on how to do this will be included in the letter or email. It’s our first #WildWednesday where we’re celebrating all the hard work taking place across the borough to support nature recovery.   Our Nature Engagement Officer Annie recently joined a volunteer team from AWE at Wigmore Heath in Tadley, when she encountered a lounge of lizards and rescued another. Both adult and juvenile common lizards were spotted soaking up final optimal rays of sunshine.   Wigmore’s conservation volunteer group, Friends of Wigmore Heath, and teams of corporate volunteers, such as AWE, have been helping restore the heathland, creating space for wildlife such as reptiles, and some even rarer gems such as the green tiger beetle.   If you are interested in volunteering yourself or having your organisation volunteer for our corporate events, go to our Green space Volunteering webpage at https://lnkd.in/eU5U89N4

Our Ranger Team is inviting organisations to utilise their Corporate Social Responsibility days to join them out on site, helping them with a range of practical conservation tasks. It’s an opportunity to get out of the office for the day, connect with nature, and help the Rangers support biodiversity across the borough. They are a small team and manage over 300 hectares of green space for biodiversity, so rely on volunteers to help out. This works best with teams of eight or more people.
