What’s a music industry without artists? As much as the big players think they can squeeze artists financially, where do they think their next a-listers are going to come from? If independent artists can’t afford a career in music, where will the next generation come from? If a career in music isn’t sustainable, why should young people dedicate their time to developing their musical skills? We’ve been in a period of exponential growth for the music industry that’s coincided with a consistent dip in the living standards of artists. At what point will it become clear that this model isn’t sustainable in the long term because it’s cutting new ideas out of the industry? There’s no music biz without music. It’s time we realized this and put artists at the center of the business.
