As software systems continue to transform everything including employee experience, it only makes sense for HR to collaborate more closely with the IT function. In the past, I am guilty of wanting to keep IT at a distance, mostly because we had different philosophies. The CTOs I worked with preferred single source for all the benefits of working with a single vendor, whereas I preferred best-of-breed for all its benefits. Fast forward, this is no longer a winning approach due to the convergence and efficiencies of enterprise practices driven by the speed of work. To be nimble, to remain competitive in the marketplace, HR and IT have to partner and find the common ground to do what's right for the overall business and not just our functions.
