Using Family Input to Improve TANF and Child Support Programs: A Video Series OFA is excited to announce Project IMPROVE’s series of short videos that discuss engaging families in program improvement. Using family input to improve human services programs may support positive changes in service delivery, policy, operations, and more. Staff from Project IMPROVE interviewed TANF and other human services program leaders and participants to create this series of three short videos. The videos explore the importance of engaging families in program improvement, how to build and maintain trust with families, and tips on establishing a family advisory council. https://buff.ly/43kmdyd.

Third sector services are often the first place vulnerable new & expectant parents go when they're looking for support. Why? Because they're rooted in local communities, they're relational, non-judgmental, shaped by people with lived experience and imbued with warmth and compassion. At The Hearts & Minds Partnership we talk about the balance of compassion & rigour embodied by the VCSE in #perinatalmentalhealth. How do we know these services work? Because people's lives are changed. There's data & a case building, but we know because people tell us. There's unequivocal evidence to support the capacity, reach and transformative impact of the VCSE, yet despite often being the first point of access, the sector is woefully under-funded and vastly underestimated. Listen to this soundscape of parents' real experiences of third sector engagement and I challenge you not to be moved. I talk a lot about social change and social value on this and other platforms. And this morning a colleague at Tigers Group asked me, in relation to the event below, and I'm paraphrasing, why we were choosing to do things that are not easy. It was a direct question, the type we should have a response for and I answered... "With knowledge comes a choice. To hold or to share. Knowing that sharing can immeasurably improve children’s lives, create positive ripple effects in communities and without hyperbole influence a country’s future the decision to do or not becomes almost moot, if, of course, you have the drive, resource and compassionate compass to do so." In short because I believe it offers the potential to be socially significant. If your role involves working with young people, or indeed the adults in lives of young people, I believe this event could be hugely beneficial to you. This particular Early Years Conference focuses on the impact of love and connection on early childhood development. It aims to bring together practitioners, educators, and policymakers to explore the effects of trauma on young minds and the importance of nurturing relationships. With speakers like Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk, Leslee Udwin and Sarah Ockwell-Smith, the event will highlight the biological impact of attachment and the power of emotionally available relationships. It will also challenge cultural norms and provoke fierce curiosity. This, undoubtedly, aligns with social change and social impact by promoting the well-being and development of children through compassionate and informed practices.
