In the realm of sustainable fashion, acknowledging the progress in regulating harmful substances in textiles since 1990 is pivotal. Efforts by governments, organizations, and companies have driven substantial advancements, partly propelled by advocacy within the industry. Key milestones such as the implementation of REACH regulations in the EU in 2007 and the adoption of the Chemicals Convention by the ILO in 1990 have significantly shaped the landscape. Industry standards like OEKO-TEX and bluesign, coupled with voluntary initiatives by major brands, have also played a crucial role in enhancing chemical management and transparency in the textile supply chain. While progress is evident, there remains room for improvement. The current enforcement approach, centering on fines rather than criminal prosecution, may not effectively deter unsafe practices in textiles. Strengthening enforcement mechanisms, advocating for increased industry accountability, and reevaluating the legal framework around chemical safety in textile production are imperative steps. To address these challenges, advocating for continued enhancements, educating consumers, and supporting safety-focused brands are vital. By fostering shared responsibility among stakeholders and steering clear of anything that gives even the slightest appearance of alarmist rhetoric, we can collectively drive meaningful change towards a safer and more sustainable fashion industry. Let's continue our journey towards a fashion industry that prioritizes chemical safety, sustainability, and responsible consumption. #SustainableFashion #ChemicalSafety #ResponsibleConsumption

The future of the textile industry: Competitive, sustainable and circular? This is what the European Commission is going to be talking about tomorrow at the #HannoverMesse industry trade fair. The EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles will be bringing in new and revised legislation on ecodesign requirements on textile products, #EPR, new waste shipment rules, the digital product passport, etc. What's more, municipalities will have to collect #textile waste separately from the start of next year, a move which will inevitably increase the volume of this waste stream. All of this is intended to make the textiles sector more #circular and sustainable – but it will pose challenges for EU fashion and textiles markets, particularly SMEs. See what all these changes will entail! If you're at the fair you can attend in person: otherwise, you can watch the livestream. The discussion panel will take place on 25 April at 15:15-16:15 CEST. Why FabricAddicts is the Key to Reducing the Ecological Footprint of the Fashion Industry Fashion is more than just a passion; it's a global industry with a profound impact on our environment. Recognizing this, we founded FabricAddicts as a solution to address the pressing environmental challenges inherent in the fashion world. Our initiative is a response to numerous global social issues, with a primary focus on fostering responsible consumption practices that prioritize environmental sustainability. But what exactly does the law stipulate regarding this matter? In France, the Anti-Waste Law for a Circular Economy (Agec) has taken significant strides in regulating the industry. Since January 1, 2022, manufacturers are prohibited from destroying new non-food products they can't sell. Furthermore, as of November 7, the law has introduced a "textile repair bonus," incentivizing French citizens to repair their clothing and reduce textile waste. So, to all fellow fashion enthusiasts, I invite you to join us on our journey toward sustainable consumption practices that not only benefit the environment but also empower women. 🚀 Together, let's make a positive impact on our planet through mindful fashion choices.🎀 #FabricAddicts #SustainableFashion #EnvironmentalImpact

Anyone else noting a roll back on sustainable sourcing at fashion trade shows? This year Première Vision is a lot smaller, while I haven’t visited Texworld I have been told it’s the same size as last year. Which would make it bigger than PV for the first time ever. Historically PV was bigger, with a higher price point and lower MOQs for materials, and with more focussed talks on improving the industry. When I visited Texworld last year there wasn’t even recycled fabrics, which the low bar in! While a couple of people said that they’re pleasantly surprised by the number of visitors, given the reduced square footage. I was taken back by how quiet it was compared to last year. But I don’t want to talk about the industry issues that may be causing this. I want to address how much smaller the Smart Creation area is. And how the talks don’t have the same fervour and excitement as last year. Last year PV pushed sustainability front and centre. This time it’s been hidden at the back. Why? #fabricsourcing #sustainablefashion #trade

CEO and Founder THEIA PR. CREATING CONVERSATIONS WITH CHANGE-MAKERS TODAY TO BUILD A FASHION INDUSTRY FIT FOR TOMORROW
T-REX Project in a nutshell. Today, only 2% of post–consumer textiles within Europe are diverted to fibre-to-fibre recycling. Creating a circular system for post-consumer textile waste still faces many challenges, including a lack of standards for collecting and sorting textile waste, inaccurate composition claims, uneven quality of materials, and a lack of reliable data across value chain stakeholders. The T-REX launched in June 2023 with the aim of addressing these challenges by creating a harmonised EU blueprint for closed loop sorting, and recycling of household textile waste. Transforming end-of-use textiles, from waste, into a desired feedstock, and a commodity for new business models that can be adopted at scale. THEIA PR is supporting Fashion for Good in leading all external communications and dissemination for the project. Please find below a short animation video we worked on with Make em Say and Hanna Gavrylova sharing a quick explainer of how the consortium are working together to identify the infrastructure, technology and policy needed to encourage the growth of circular value chains. Follow T-REX Project | Textile Recycling Excellence for key learnings and insights through-out the journey. T-REX Project | Textile Recycling Excellence, in collaboration with fellow EU funded project SCIRT Project is also hosting a webinar exploring the current strategies and anticipated impacts of ESPR at 11.30am CEST today, please sign up via the link below if you’re interested to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eQaHAZft https://lnkd.in/ebrfizfv
Learn how T-REX (Textile Recycling Excellence) Project is developing a blueprint for scaling closed-loop recycling of post-consumer textiles across the EU.
