A school in Dallas put out a call for stand-ins to attend a breakfast for young boys, many of whom don’t have father figures of their own. They thought maybe a dozen people would show up. More than 600 dads showed up. Imagine what the world would look like if we had more of these headlines everyday. Thank you Goodable. Great weekend to my LinkedIn family 🤍 #StoriesWorthSharing S&L

Here’s how you leave a lasting legacy as a father for your children : 👉🏼 You get a tub of Mayo 👉🏼 You mix it with Vodka 👉🏼 You chug it and immediately pass out 👉🏼𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧👈🏼 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘴𝘰𝘯, 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘍𝘖𝘟, 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘺+ 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘶𝘱 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘶𝘧𝘧 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘵 𝘥𝘢𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳. Television gives us a great portrayal of duds, not a lot of dads. A whole lot of ‘why bothers’, and not a lot of ‘that’s my fathers.’ If you really want to live a life of legacy for your kids, try this: 💥 Spend time with your kids, like every single day. 💥 Apoligize when you screw up with them, great dads aren’t impervious to mistakes. 💥 Portray and exemplify great health. Eat right. Work out. Care. 💥 Love their mother with intense ferocity. Tell them how much you love her. 💥 Ask your kids real questions about their lives, and genuinely be interested in their answers. 💥 Tell your kids you’re proud of them when you are, and strangle apathy to death. 💥 Keep your word. Mean what you say. Don’t lie to your children. 💥 Create expectations and make sure that discipline is a very real part of their life. I could drag this list on for hours, but here’s a general rule of thumb: 👉🏼 If Homer Simpson did it, you should probably go the other way with it. Just a few pointers. Legacy is forever. Make it matter. #ALLisWells

🦞 Age is Just a Number: Meet the 104-Year-Old 'Lobster Lady' 🚤 Virginia Oliver, Maine's maritime marvel, just renewed her commercial lobster license at 104 years old. Why? Because retirement isn't in her vocabulary! Picture this: A centenarian rising at 3 AM, donning lipstick and earrings, to catch lobsters thrice a week. That's Virginia's life, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Her secret? "You've gotta keep living, you gotta keep working." Virginia's story isn't just about lobsters. It's about passion, purpose, and shattering age stereotypes. As we plan for our futures, perhaps we should ask: What's our equivalent of Virginia's lobster boat? Let's celebrate those who prove that life's adventures don't have an expiration date. #AgelessInspiration #LifelongPurpose #RetirementRedefined Source: https://lnkd.in/gNnEASVP

Municipal Commissioner | Author of Your City is Sick I Speaker I Consultant I Founder, Revitalize, or Die. I Place Industry Advocate | Prefer to GSD
In this episode, I dive into the age-old trope of "kids these days" and challenge the notion that younger generations are inherently different or less capable than those that came before. It isn't that kids have changed, but instead, environmental factors shaping behaviors, shedding light on how societal changes have influenced their experiences. From dwindling opportunities for outdoor play and exploration to the decline of traditional community settings, I discuss how modern landscapes have impacted the development and engagement of young people. We must confront the tendency to blame younger generations for perceived shortcomings in civic engagement and community involvement. Instead, let's consider the root causes behind these issues, including the lack of exposure to community values and the challenges of navigating modern environments designed for convenience rather than connection. By reframing the narrative surrounding "kids these days," I challenge listeners to look beyond generational stereotypes and take responsibility for creating environments that foster meaningful engagement and community connection for all ages.
