Planting for pollinators is so important to every aspect of life. Planting native plants for pollinators is even smarter. Look up what garden zone you are, then what native plants grow in that garden zone, buy and plant in your neck of the woods. Voila!
It's Pollinator Week! 🐝 National Pollinator Week, June 17–23, is an annual event celebrating pollinators and spreading the word on how we can protect them. Here a few ideas on how you can celebrate Pollinator Week: 🦋 Plant habitat in your backyard using native plants 🦋 Support a nonprofit with a mission to protect pollinators 🦋 Build native bee houses 🦋 Host a pollinator planting day at your school, office, park, or library 🦋 Go on a nature walk How will you celebrate this week? CANT HANDLE THE CUTENESS!!! 8 weeks to their solar salad As we consider the future of these cute pasture pigs who's parents were raised on solar let us also consider the future of solar installations let us consider how best to use the land we manage. As CS Lewis once mused, "You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending." Agrivoltaics is an act of stewardship, you rewrite the narrative of solar, transforming agricultural land lost into more productive food producing land, Community disenfranchisement into farm partner relationships and meaningful engagement. As we witness the pasture livestock graze into the boundless sea of shady blue and green, the beautiful pastoral view is a silent testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and the ingenuity that will carry us into the future. we are reminded that every solar acre farmed is a victory worth celebrating. A huge shout out to forward-thinking developers and asset owners, and entrepreneurial farmers, agrivoltaics enthusiasts, researchers and nonprofits dedicated to expanding this industry. If you, a business, or someone you know is wondering how to engage Consider a donation to UA heartland alliance, a new nonprofit seeking seed funding, all donations go towards Community engagement, public awareness, wildlife reintroduction, farm partner training. https://lnkd.in/gSvrfAva

Community Giving Week is all about giving back to Camp and School—but we would be remiss not to extend that spirit of giving back to the place we call home! To celebrate our Adirondack community, we wanted to recognize one of our great nonprofit partners here in the region, AdkAction. Here are some pollinator facts they shared with us recently: 🦋 Three-fourths of the world’s flowering plants and about 35 percent of the world’s food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce. That’s one out of every three bites of food you eat! 🐝 Threats including habitat loss and fragmentation, pesticide use, climate change, and disease are causing a decline in global and local pollinator populations. 🐞 Pollinators that can’t find the right quantity or quality of food (nectar and pollen from blooming plants within flight range) don’t survive. Right now, there simply aren’t enough pollinator friendly plantings to support pollinators. Learn more about AdkAction’s work in this recent conversation between our Garden Manager Kim Smart and Hannah Grall, AdkAction Project Coordinator - visit https://lnkd.in/ej96TWVK to watch the full interview. And if you haven’t made your gift yet, donate today at https://lnkd.in/e5-rHD2S!

Today we launched our "Limelight Rainforest 5K - Race to Identify" Kickstarter campaign! https://lnkd.in/dgma6eVQ Our goal is to register and catalogue 5000 insect taxa in four months, collecting photographic, acoustic, physiological and genetic data. These data will be published in public databases for use by policy makers, conservationists, scientists, and by anyone with a cool question about insects! We hope you will support the work of our taxonomists in the rainforests of the Amazon basin. Supporters will receive a monthly newsletter, biodiversity reports, and swag. Cataloging 5000 taxa of insects is a bold goal that will have a major impact. For comparison, there are less than 7000 known species of mammals known to science. Let's spread awareness of the importance of insect biodiversity. Insects are an unbelievably diverse group that humanity not only depends on for survival, but paradoxically are also our greatest competitors for food. Further, insects interact with every aspect of the terrestrial world, providing insights across taxa. But most importantly for conservation, insects respond rapidly to changes in local environments, making them rapid indicators of the effectiveness of actions made to improve biodiversity - if we want to save our forests, we need to know our insects!

Have you considered the importance of farm workers' roles as you shop for groceries? How does the fresh food that we purchase at the market get there? Learn more at our presentation this week.
Our program this week sheds light on the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF), a nonprofit organization based in Delano dedicated to empowering farmworkers to have a voice in their communities. The organization's core mission is to enhance the quality of life for California farmworkers through tailored programs and services. Operating at the grassroots level, CFF employs a user-centered approach to customize its offerings to meet the specific needs of farmworkers. With a significant expansion in personnel and coverage across six counties, CFF's Outreach Specialists engage with thousands of farmworkers weekly in California, reaching over 90,000 individuals in 2023. During this presentation, you will learn about the ongoing initiatives undertaken by CFF to address farmworkers' needs and provide essential solutions to enhance their overall well-being. Our speaker, Diana Silva, holds the position of Communication Director at the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF). With her family roots deeply connected to the farm-working community, she draws inspiration from her grandparents, who were farmworkers after immigrating from Mexico. As the first in her family to earn a college degree, Diana graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communication from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Her dedication to agriculture, community service, and the desire to continue generational progress motivated her to join CFF in 2021. #Rotary #rotaryclub #farmworkers https://lnkd.in/gJHW6-Jt

🌱🐔 Empowering Future Generations through Family Farming! 🌟👨👩👧👦 I couldn't be prouder to share the incredible journey of my family's involvement in Hydro Coops farming! Each of my amazing kids tends to 3 Hydro Coops, while Lize Marie leads the charge with an impressive 6 Coops. Together, they're making a profound impact on both our local community and the agricultural landscape. 🌾🚜 🐣🌿 In just six weeks, our family farm produces a staggering 2250 broiler chickens, securing a profit exceeding R140,000. But our mission goes beyond profits; it's about giving back. Every month, we're honored to donate over 6000 eggs and more than 5000 fresh vegetables to support local communities in need. 🥚🥕 Through Hydro Coops, we've not only found a sustainable source of income but also a platform for meaningful contribution. Our children are learning invaluable lessons in entrepreneurship, responsibility, and the joy of giving back. Together, we're proving that even the smallest efforts can make a big difference. 🌟💚 Join us in celebrating the power of family farming and the positive impact it can have on both livelihoods and communities. What impact will your company make this month? What responsibility are you taking on restorative action this month? Your Consumers are watching....🌍 #sustainability #cannabis #cannabiscommunity #restore #calltoaction #earthday #cannabisnews
Happy Earth Month! Farmer Jane is Going Green! 🌱 At Farmer Jane, we recognize that our actions today shape the world of tomorrow and we’re doing our part to champion responsible business practices in the cannabis industry. This Earth month, we're proud to announce our ambitious goal of planting 10,000 trees by April 2025, in partnership with veritree. To celebrate and kick things off, we’re planting 10 trees for every one of our employees. That equals 1,250 trees planted that will aid in reforestation efforts in the Cariboo Region in BC, an area devastated by fires that scorched over 1.3 million hectares of land. Join us! Throughout April, we've teamed up with like-minded producers to donate a portion of proceeds towards tree planting efforts. Plus, you can directly contribute by adding trees to your purchase for just $1 at checkout. Every tree helps! By planting 10,000 trees, we'll be able to restore 4 hectares of damaged ecosystems, sequester 10,800 tonnes of CO2, and provide 40 work days for dedicated tree planters. Follow our progress on our Impact Hub. Let's shape a greener future together! 🌿💚 #GoingGreen #SustainableFuture #FarmerJaneCares
