Did you know...? While researching paint colors for our own porch ceiling painting project, I learned that the sky blue we see on so many northeastern historic porches did not, as many believe, originate as a way to ward off bird and insect nests. "Haint Blue," as it's historically called, was a culturally significant tradition of enslaved Africans in the South, meant to protect against evil spirits and ghosts. The haints would confuse the blue paint with water, which they could not cross over, or sky, toward which they would fly away. Watercolor artist and mental health therapist helping creatives let go of perfectionism in their art and just play!
Here is my latest YouTube tutorial on painting the flower that I hate the most! https://lnkd.in/gjgcYV5K I say that in jest but the rose is by far one of my most frustrating flowers to paint. How much white space do you leave, how much do you take up with paint, what does the outside shape of the flower look like? Here I break it down and show you how I like to paint roses at the current moment. I say it like that because it is likely to change soon ☺️ what is the flower that gives you the most trouble to paint? Feel free to share in comments!

Helpful reminder to BE THE BUFFALO! The faster we take action, the faster we can get through challenges. See Lauren Ansley’s post below, which includes an excerpt from her keynote, “The Art of Self-Leadership.” #selfleadership #keynote #bethebuffalo
Do you know what buffalos do in a storm? Do they hunker down like other woodland creatures? Nope. Buffalos CHARGE into the storm. Because they've learned if they run into the storm, they'll get through it faster. 🐃 We can do the same. By facing challenges head on, we diminish the time we sit in anxiety, and we can get through them faster. In my keynote, "The Art of Self-Leadership," I include this image, which is a watercolor painting I bought from DEAN CROUSER FINE ART, LLC. It reminds me that I can get through stormy times. Be the buffalo! #selfleadership #keynotespeaker #buffalo
