This month's Trash Bash is going to be our biggest yet! 💙 In honour of International Coastal Cleanup Day, we're cleaning up Monwabisi Beach on 21 September! The Two Oceans Aquarium and its Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation are dedicated to protecting and preserving our ocean for future generations, which is why we are so passionate about Trash Bash. 🌊 Plastic cannot break down, biodegrade, or become part of the natural system again. Instead, it breaks up infinitely, putting our marine ecosystems in grave danger. Join us in breaking the cycle of pollution and making a positive impact on our ocean! 🙌

The Ocean Cleanup UPDATE: The Gulf of Honduras – a piece of ocean wedged between Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula – has historically been one of the most plastic-polluted places on earth. Every year during the rainy season thousands of tons of plastic wash down the Rio Motagua and end up in this part of the Western Caribbean Sea. Since 2019, The Ocean Cleanup has been working to address this problem. After several attempts, they finally achieved success in May 2023 with the deployment of Interceptor 006 in Guatemala’s Rio Las Vacas (the tributary which connects Guatemala City with the Rio Motagua). With it, we have since prevented over 10,000,000 kg = TEN MILLION KILOGRAMS! of trash (equivalent to over 2,200 truckloads) from flowing to the Gulf of Honduras. #IMPRESSIVE #HUGE #MUSTSEE #WATCHTHIS

Do you know which trash is most commonly found during our beach cleanups? 🚬🌊 During our beach cleanup, we collected lots of cigarette butts from the shoreline. Cigarette butts are the most common type of trash found on beaches, and they are non-recyclable, taking up to 10 years to decompose. Each of these butts could have otherwise ended up in our ocean, harming marine life and ecosystems. Beach cleanups are more than just picking up trash—they’re a vital step in protecting our beaches and marine environments. By removing litter, especially items like cigarette butts, we’re making a big difference in the fight against ocean pollution. Every small action adds up to a cleaner, healthier planet. #beachclean #litter #coralcatch #recycle #plastic #cleanup #scholarship #womanpower #generationrestoration

This week is National Marine Week! Contrary to the title, National Marine Week is celebrated for a fortnight from July 24 to August 8 to appreciate, better understand and care for the magnificent sea animals 🌊🦑🐚🔎🦞🐳 and plants that exist in the United Kingdom. The oceans are vital to humanity, given that they constitute the largest ecosystem on the planet. In addition to containing 97% of the planet’s water, they also make up 80% of the planet’s biodiversity, with more than 30,000 species. How to support: 1. Choose reusable containers, such as coffee cups and water bottles, go for reusable bags instead of plastic as they pose no environmental harm. 2. One easy way to get engaged is to go out to the sea and observe marine life. While you are there, pick up any litter you see. 3. Participate in an event near you: https://lnkd.in/d3SErBw

🌍 Pick Up Your Own Trash: Small Actions, Big Impact🌍 In conjunction with World CleanUp Day 2024 (September 20), take a moment to reflect on the importance of personal responsibility when it comes to caring for our environment. Often, we wait for large-scale initiatives or complex systems to fix the problem, but the truth is that change starts with us—it starts with something as simple as picking up our own trash. We don’t need grand gestures to make a significant difference. By consciously ensuring our own waste is disposed of properly, we help: 🌱 Reduce pollution 🌱 Preserve natural resources 🌱 Conserve wildlife habitats 🌱 Create a culture of cleanliness and responsibility In my years in the automotive industry, we’ve always focused on reducing waste and improving processes. The same principles apply to our daily lives. Whether it's at the workplace, in the community, or even during a walk, let’s make it a habit to leave the environment better than we found it. On this World CleanUp Day, I encourage everyone to take action—pick up your own trash, and if you see litter around, take a moment to clean it up. Small actions, when multiplied by millions, create a global impact. Let’s be the change, starting today. 🌍♻️ #WorldCleanUpDay #Sustainability #EnvironmentalResponsibility #PickUpYourTrash #SmallActionsBigImpact

Why is Beach Cleanup Important? In our second post, Shibin sheds light on the role beach cleanups play in preventing pollution: “Litter on the beach can easily find its way into the ocean, contributing to widespread pollution. By cleaning up our beaches, we prevent harmful substances from entering the marine environment.” While beach cleanups may not be the ultimate solution to waste management, they are a vital step in reducing pollution and protecting our oceans until a proper waste system is in place. Stay tuned for more insights from our volunteers as we continue our journey towards cleaner, healthier coastlines! #BeachCleanup #PreventPollution #OceanStudentsCommunity #CleanBeaches #SustainableFuture #Volunteer #ProtectOurOceans #MarineConservation
