Missed The Hard Skills show with my guest Matthew D. Asbell yesterday? No worries - here's the recording! We discussed how we shape our leadership and who shapes it - from the perspective of an IP attorney! A few take-aways for me: 1. Consistency about how we show up is key. A logo or product can only go so far in supporting the short-cut to your reputation. You need to support that short-cut through consistent communication and messaging. 2. How we address mistakes depends on our brand. Is your brand about integrity? discretion? support? Whatever the values behind the brand is the best way to show up when you make a mistake. 3. Brands change over time. They reflect how you see yourself as a leader and how the company shows up for their customers or constituents. The key to changing the brand has to do with whether there is a communication between the company and the clients and whether we can fully pay attention to those changes and reflect back what we hear and see. It's more a validation and strengthening of the relationship. What did you take away?

Missed my interview with Aynsley Szczesniak, Executive Director of Speak Out Sisterhood and first year pre-med student at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill? Here's the recording and my take-aways for how anyone can make an impact: 1. Aynsley shared how just one woman’s willingness to share her story candidly made a massive difference on her own future, which has led to the development of a non-profit that is making a global difference. 2. Aynsley described a 6-step roadmap to starting her new initiative that others can learn from: - Go to conferences held by professional organizations where you can meet people with similar interests - Be willing to network (authentically) intentionally and connect. Remember: quality is better than quantity - Be open to opportunities that come your way through those conversations - When you hear trends from thought leaders, listen carefully - Think about how you can apply those possibilities and trends to the gaps that you see all around you - Assemble a team to collaborate with you by inviting people in and tapping into your network 3. Three tips we explored in our mini-coaching around her next growth steps: - Slow down to speed up - Be comfortable with being impatiently patient to grow in a way in a sustainable way - Balance productivity with relationship building by balancing different strengths on their executive team #STEMinism #leadershipdevelopment #teamdevelopment #globalimpact #womeninleadership #STEM #womeninSTEM
