Why We Must Protect Our Freedoms on Independence Day. The 4th of July is a day to reflect, remember, celebrate and protect our freedoms. From a historical perspective, the Declaration of Independence set forth a unique ideal which has become the cornerstone value of America; enshrining our rights to Life Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. We fought to achieve our Independence from forces without, and then from within to abolish slavery, women’s suffrage, and civil rights for all. But now we are challenged by politicians from within who seek to limit and stifle our rights to free speech by censorship and other acts. On this 248th birthday of our country, we must always reflect on the importance of our individual liberties, and fight to protect them for our future generations. #4thofjuly #independenceday #independenceday2024 #happy4thofjuly #happyfourthofjuly #freedom #freedomofspeech #freedomofpress #civilliberties #civilrights #freedomofreligion #freespeech #firstamendment #patriots #donaldtrump #maga #makeamericagreatagainagain #trumptrain #trumpsupporters #americanvalues #constitution #declarationofindependence #billofrights

Happy Independence Day America! Today, as we celebrate the founding of this great nation, let's reflect on the essence of our festivities. In its 248 years, the United States has achieved remarkable milestones that set it apart. From a functional democracy to the peaceful transfer of power, our commitment to freedom is unwavering. For many like me, who immigrated from dictatorships, America symbolizes hope and opportunity. The belief in unity amidst diversity is what makes this country exceptional. As we aid refugees and immigrants seeking safety and a fresh start, we uphold the values that define us. In a world where democracies are under unprecedented threat, safeguarding American freedom is paramount. Democracy is not just a system; it's the cornerstone of justice, freedom, and individual rights. Let's honor those who sacrificed for our liberty by defending the core principles of democracy today and always. Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸 #IndependenceDay #AmericanFreedom #Democracy #Unity

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a vital occasion honoring the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. Originating in 1865 in Galveston, Texas, this day commemorates the end of slavery, two and a half years post the Emancipation Proclamation. It's a time to honor the contributions of African American soldiers to the Union's fight for freedom and the subsequent abolition of slavery. The significance of Juneteenth lies in the events leading up to the end of slavery, including the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War's conclusion, and the passage of the 13th Amendment. The Reconstruction Amendments, post-Civil War, further solidified these liberties: the 13th Amendment abolished slavery, the 14th granted citizenship and protection, while the 15th provided voting rights. #Juneteenth #ChariotsOfHonor

On December 10, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in response to the atrocities committed during World War II. This landmark global pledge outlined for the first time fundamental human rights to be universally protected, regardless of race, nationality, sex, religion, or any other status. It was the first international treaty to recognize the inherent dignity and worth of all human beings, and it is the most translated document in the world. Today, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights! #HumanRightsDay #HumanRights75

#OTD Today we mark the 100th anniversary of the Snyder Act, also known as the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, which unilaterally conferred U.S. citizenship to Native peoples. It was part of the federal government's continuing attempts to cover up their responsibility to honor our treaty rights. Indigenous peoples continue to face the obstacles of systemic racism and denial of treaty rights. Today, state governments still change poll times and locations without notice to Tribal governments. In recent years, judges at all levels of government have weakened the Voting Rights Act and state lawmakers continue to pass new unconstitutional laws to make it harder for Native people to vote. For this centennial, we’ve joined with partner organizations IllumiNative and the Native American Rights Fund to declare a National Day of Action and Reflection. The centennial offers a unique opportunity to raise awareness and foster a collective narrative about this pivotal moment in U.S. history for Native peoples. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ggUwv-9D

Join us today in celebrating the Bill of Rights!! The Bill of Rights embodies a core American strength: the capacity for compromise and self-improvement. By codifying fundamental freedoms, it won over States skeptical of a Federal Government at the time of our founding and proved our Constitution to be a living document. From The American Presidency Project, Proclamation 10323—Bill of Rights Day, 2021: “Opportunities to improve our Constitution have been contemplated since its inception. On December 15, 1791, three-fourths of the existing State legislatures ratified the first 10 Amendments of the Constitution—the Bill of Rights. These Amendments protect some of the most indispensable rights and liberties that define us as Americans. Though we have often struggled to live up to the promises they contain, 230 years after the ratification of the Bill of Rights, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms remains at the center of our democracy." The Bill of Rights is important not only in the freedoms it protects but in its demonstration of America's enduring commitment to self-improvement and striving to continuously form our "more perfect union." Since 1791, 17 additional Amendments have been ratified for a total of 27 Amendments to the Constitution. #BillOfRightsDay2023 #Heritage #Legacy #OneGuard

Each year, I am delighted to see an increasing number of Municipalities, Businesses, and other Organizations that are commemorating Juneteenth. A federal holiday since 2021, I'm sure there are many who mentally (or physically) roll their eyes and ask what's the big deal; never realizing the big deal it is to the African Americans who work with them. According to Darryl Heller, Director of the Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center, "June 19 is the day that Union troops entered Galveston, Texas, and informed some 200,000 enslaved people that they were actually free and no longer subject to the coerced labor of their former masters. And this is significant because it is often considered to be the date that the last enslaved people were emancipated in the United States." Heller continues, "However, it is important to dispel several myths about Juneteenth so that we can more accurately celebrate it. The first is that it is often said that Juneteenth occurred almost two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, but we have to remember that the Emancipation Proclamation didn’t free all of the slaves. It only impacted states that were in rebellion against the United States and, importantly, it was unenforceable until Union troops arrived. The second myth that is important to dispel is that Juneteenth itself, even though it occurred later than emancipation for many enslaved people, didn’t actually mark the end of slavery in the United States. Slavery in the United States was embedded in our Constitution and was a legal construct. So, full emancipation and the end of slavery did not happen until December of 1865 with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, almost six months after Juneteenth." Although Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most US Citizens.

Today, we commemorate #Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history and the long and painful era of enslavement. Though the Emancipation Proclamation took effect on January 1, 1863, ostensibly freeing those enslaved in Confederate States, Juneteenth marks the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reaching the most distant corners of Confederate territory with Union troops arriving in Galveston Bay, Texas on June 19, 1865. Meanwhile, the Thirteenth Amendment would still be necessary to end slavery throughout the United States. Juneteenth is a celebration of #emancipation, #resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. It's a day to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to achieve true #equality and #justice in all aspects of life, including healthcare. We honor this day at PACE Healthcare Capital and reaffirm our commitment to invest in solutions that promote health equity and better ensure quality healthcare for all. Together, we can build a more inclusive and just healthcare system.
