Here’s the thing about compensation: It can be difficult to compare salaries for two jobs. I like to use a baseline of $/hr. Here’s an example. 👇 Who is making more money? Jane - $130,000/yr, Full-time (Averages 45 hrs/week) Debra - $120,000/yr, Full-time (Averages 40 hrs/week) If we look at this from an income perspective, Jane earns more. But what did this cost her? There is a component that many fail to consider in this example. Money can be made, lost, won, invested, spent, ect. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬. You can never be compensated in time. So if we consider time to be our most important factor: How much do they each make? Jane – $55.6 / hr Debra - $57.7 / hr There are many more factors to consider for a true comparison. But if your time (now) is the most valuable thing to you, Don’t leave it out when comparing offers. P.S. - I'm on a 60-day mission to help at least 3 structural/forensic engineers find a career advancement opportunity. 👉 If you're a structural/forensic engineer in the USA who is looking for a career advancement opportunity, please DM me. 👇 If you've ever been curious about what it's like working for yourself, read on. My view - if you bought the last KWh from a power plant you would pay a hefty premium - real time pricing - Similarly if a company buys your last hour they should pay a premium - real time labor pricing - Always take the fewest hours job if possible

Awesome analysis and I wish more people thought this way! There is so much more to consider than just “the number”
