5G FRIDAY! 📶 The race to monetise 5G investments is on, and orchestration is the key to success! Here’s what you need to know! ⤵️ 1️⃣ Software and hardware disaggregation should enable services to run seamlessly at the edge or in a public or private cloud. 2️⃣ The SA core should support cloud native services through an API exposure model that emulates public cloud services. 3️⃣ Meeting ultra-low latency targets is critical for mission-critical 5G services, especially with sliced-based services ensuring dedicated network resources. But what's the current landscape of end-to-end orchestration? 📈 93% of providers deem end-to-end orchestration crucial for monetising 5G/cloud services. 🛠️ Yet, less than a third feel their current platforms fully support 5G/cloud use cases. ⏳ Optimism reigns as 6 out of 10 providers foresee readiness within 12–18 months. Hello Telco Community :) This is my reflection on the 8th session (Edge & Telco Cloud) as part of the cloud mentorship program. 👉The concept of Edge was there prior to 5G but there was no real Telco adoption of the related technology because of the lack of use case and the business reliance on the business as usual services. 👉The Edge as a concept attracted the attention one more time with the 5G evolution & ORAN maturity. 👉Building thousands of Edge PoPs without a business case is not reasonable and it is never going to happen. That’s why More Telcos are eager to explore an Opex-based model (Revenue Sharing) with Edge solutions provider (e.g. Hyperscalers), mainly targeting B2B segments. 👉There are several modes of Edge deployments available on the market where the cloud footprint is compact enough to preserve the power and space limitations while possessing the needed capabilities in terms of performance & special features (e.g. Accelerators).
