Today is a beautiful spring day in Umeå, and in addition to being "syttende mai" (Congratulations Norway!), it is also Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Day. NF type 1 is the most common of the NF syndromes and affects around 30 in 100 000 persons. This means that around 3000 people in Sweden is living with this autosomal dominant genetic tumor predisposition syndrome, which causes (benign and sometimes cancerous) tumors to grow on nerves. Bumps on the skin (neurfibromas), café au lait spots, scoliosis, plexiform neurofibromas, and optic pathway gliomas are common symtoms. By wearing blue and green on this day, people all over the world aim to #shinealightonNF and to #makeNFvisible! Important NGO:s in Swedan working with this is Barncancerfonden, Ågrenska, and NF-förbundet. An important international organization is Children's Tumor Foundation.

Imagine fighting a war and your child’s cancer. For some parents in #Ukraine, that’s the harsh reality. For health centers in the region, quality medicines to treat cancer are in short supply. To help meet the health needs in Ukraine, Americares is providing oncology medicines to Tabletochki CF, a Ukrainian organization that supports children and families through every stage of cancer. By teaming up with local organizations like Tabletochki, we’re able to deliver life-saving medications and address the physical and mental health needs of those most at risk. #ChildhoodCancerDay #Americares

Today, as we celebrate International Day of Families, we take a moment to highlight the challenges faced by the whole family when one child is diagnosed with cancer. It is crucial to enhance care and reduce treatment abandonment in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Beyond medicine and science, Foundation S’s approach to beating childhood cancer, through its emblematic My Child Matters program, relies on a holistic view of the families’ situations when cancer strikes, especially in low income (and so far, low survival) areas. In partnership with Childhood Cancer International, the "Home Away from Home" initiative aims to provide a second home near essential health services for children and teenagers battling cancer. It’s about creating a sanctuary that meets the real needs of families dealing with the hardships of a severe illness. On this International Day of Families, we want to give a special shoutout to the three organizations selected as part of this initiative, which are creating better care systems for children facing cancer and their families: Bolivia, Fundación Nuestra Esperanza Zambia, Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation Malaysia, NCSM The National Cancer Society Malaysia To learn more about those organizations: https://lnkd.in/ePHshyC6 Together, let’s create healthier futures for generations to come. Thrilled to share insights on AI's potential to revolutionize cervical cancer screening in Zimbabwe (and other LMICs) at the Unitaid session "Women at the center"! As Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc works with the Zimbabwean government and partners to scale up screening towards very ambitious global and national targets, AI offers a powerful solution alongside existing tools like HPV testing and self-sampling. AI-assisted VIA can significantly improve: Accuracy: Reducing human error and leading to earlier diagnoses. Efficiency: Overcoming known limitations of traditional VIA and potentially reaching more women with fewer resources. Accessibility: Expanding screening services to remote areas with limited healthcare workers. This will translate to better health outcomes for women at risk, particularly in rural areas. #AIDS2024 #CervicalCancer #AIinHealthcare #WomensHealth #Zimbabwe Judith Neilson Foundation
During a Q&A at the "Women at the centre" event, AI's promise in Zimbabwe's cervical cancer program was underscored. With only 200 VIA facilities for 3.5M women, AI could boost accuracy, efficiency and coverage, especially in rural areas.

What enables optimal care for #OesophagogastricCancer? What hinders it? A survey by our VICS Optimal Care Summits identified key barriers, enablers and preferences from multidisciplinary health professionals across Victoria. The results informed identification and prioritisation of 20 'unwarranted variations' in care and outcomes, discussion of the top 3 priority variations at our summit event in March, and a proposed register of actions to address the variations to be published in June – Watch this space! #MultidisciplinaryApproach #EsophagealCancer #OesphagealCancer #UpperGICancers #HealthEquity Pancare Foundation Cancer Council Victoria

We talk a lot about Canada’s commitment to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040 and the work the Partnership, alongside our many partners, is doing to make this a reality. It’s important work and how amazing will it be to look back on what was achieved collectively by 2040? As Andre Picard noted in his Globe & Mail column yesterday, we have the tools, but need to act and ensure that there is equitable access to them. Achieving equity and working in ways that honour our commitment to reconciliation are key elements of the Action Plan for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer, as the incidence of cervical cancer is higher among First Nations, Inuit and Métis, those living in rural or remote areas, those living with lower incomes and recent immigrants. Earlier this week, I had a privilege of attending a captivating documentary screening alongside Stephan Schann and Anastasia Tanti. The film retraced the inspiring adventure of Constance Schaerer, the founder of the association 7 Sommets Contre la Maladie, as she ascended Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America. Constance’s story is one of courage, determination, and unwavering commitment. After losing her father to #cancer at a young age and driven by a desire to honor his last wishes, Constance embarked on an extraordinary mission to climb the highest summit of each of the 7 continents. In just two years, she has conquered Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua, and her journey doesn’t stop there. In March 2022, Constance created the association 7 summits against the disease dedicated to supporting children who have lost or are living with parents affected by cancer. The association’s mission is to offer these children the support and a spark of hope through sport and cultural activities, as well as to raise funds for #cancerresearch, especially those cancer types where effective treatments remain a challenge. At Domain Therapeutics, we are deeply moved by Constance’s story and stand in solidarity with her and the association. We refuse to settle for one-size-fits-all solutions. We strive to climb scientific peaks to identify the right tumor type, the right sub-populations of patients and the right combination treatments. Our goal is to unlock groundbreaking clinical outcomes and bring new innovative solutions to #cancerpatients in their battle against cancer. Constance, your audacity, and resilience inspire us all! Your journey resonates with our mission at Domain, and we look forward to exploring this synergy further. Together we can elevate cancer research, empower young lives and conquer new summits! #immunotherapy #drugdevelopment #precisionmedicine
