When Nancy Hodges relocated to Cincinnati, finding a team of doctors to manage her complex medical conditions was a priority. With a history of battling rheumatoid arthritis, Nancy's doctor urged her to continue her care at UC Health. Since then, Nancy has received exceptional care from a dedicated team of doctors who have supported her through multiple surgeries, including a transformative back surgery by Dr. Rani Nasser that corrected a disabling scoliosis diagnosis. Now 80 years old, Nancy embraces life fully, enjoying activities like gardening, regular exercise, and fulfilling a bucket-list trip to Greece—all made possible by the personalized, expert care provided by UC Health. Innovative Trauma Care Inc. (iTClamp) #itclamp was designed to be easily applied for hemorrhage control of the scalp, neck and other compressible extremity wounds. The face, head and neck are tricky, and deceptively simple and can cause first responders to spend an unnecessary amount of time on scene. Anything that can be done to speed up transport to bright lights and cold steel is ideal....Especially TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING.

Midface trauma is tricky to manage in an austere pre hospital setting. To add to their existing tools at Edale Mountain Rescue Team , we ran a facial trauma workshop geared towards primary management till Medevac can take place . Thanks to Louise Mortimer we could introduce the team to the use of Rapid Rhino 900 and 550 with hands on modules supervised by Ben Cooper , myself & @Mike cole ( All World Extreme Medicine faculty)

https://lnkd.in/dRN9adsw So proud of the work of the medical team at Jack’s Basket as we continue to reframe the diagnosis of Down syndrome for families and healthcare providers. Can’t believe Carissa and her team are celebrating 10 years of celebrating babies. I’ve been honored to serve on the board, emcee the gala, and bring the story across the country at grand rounds and conferences about how clinicians can minimize our own biases by reframing “I’m sorry I have bad news” as “I have some news which may be unexpected.” Statistically, families don’t come to see the diagnosis of Down syndrome as bad and not something we should be apologizing for, and most wouldn’t change the diagnosis but would change how they were told. Checkout the feature in the 10 year anniversary and new curriculum the medical team lead by Erin Plummer that has just been launched.

Today is the day! A day 100 years in the making. A day filled with everything we have put into it: hard work, sweat, tears, determination, passion and heart. It is a day of joy. A day to celebrate science and research, volunteers and survivors. A day to celebrate all people everywhere whose lives we improve. A day to celebrate every member of the American Heart Association family. Today marks 100 years since the founding of the American Heart Association on June 10, 1924. CPR. Pacemakers. Heart transplants. Stents. Clot-busting drugs. Congenital heart defect repairs. Treatment. Prevention. Guidelines. Precision Medicine. Our organization has made all of them possible, and in doing so, we’ve cut cardiovascular mortality in half. Our Second Century will be a time of incredible breakthroughs, many unimaginable today, guided by our vision of “advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.” And we can’t wait to see where we’ll go and who we’ll be, 100 years from now.

“When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses, not zebras.” These words, originally quoted by American physician Theodore Woodward, are the motivation behind our first public offering for health professionals. We know that diagnosis of rare conditions can be difficult and this journey can take YEARS as people wait for specialist appointments and the care they need. Enter Seeing Stripes - an educational series for health professionals who are ready to make a difference. Over three enlightening sessions, we’re inviting like-minded general practitioners and physicians to join us to explore the intricacies of the presentation and diagnostics for Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Each night will be facilitated by a member of the Zebras team alongside a guest presenter from our amazing network of medical specialists: Monday 1st July 2024 at 6:30pm: 🦓 Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) with Melissa Williams and Dr. Kunal Verma Tuesday 6th August 2024 at 6:30pm: 🦓 Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) with Claire Orian Weiss and Dr. Jason Lam Thursday 19th September at 6:30pm: 🦓 Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) with Sophia Cartledge and Dr. Chris Ford Each 45 minute session will include: ✴ An overview of the condition ✴ What to listen for in the history, and extra questions to ask ✴ What to look for in the examination, and testing that can be done in practice ✴ How to support someone through the process of diagnosis ✴ When to refer onwards, and who to refer to ✴ Dedicated time for Q&A’s ✴ Light refreshments We’re opening our doors in Richmond to a limited - and we mean limited - number of people who wish to attend in-person. For those who wish to join from the comfort of home, we’ll also stream these sessions live. The cost? Nada! All we ask is that attendees register through Trybooking for in-person attendance (https://lnkd.in/dvU5UYJQ) or virtual attendance (https://lnkd.in/dPUtiEK7). We hope Seeing Stripes will lead to more primary care providers recognising rare conditions and feeling confident in providing or supporting the process of diagnosis.

When was the last time you had your eyes checked? This week is World Glaucoma Week run by the World Glaucoma Association. Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness. The aim of the week is to alert everyone to have regular eye and optic nerve checks to detect glaucoma as early as possible because there are available treatments for all forms of glaucoma to prevent visual loss. So come on gents, book in to get those eyes checked if it has been a little while, especially those who do not need glasses. If your optometrist bulk bills, Medicare will pay for: one eye test every 3 years, if you are under 65 years. one eye test a year, if you are over 65 years. Glaucoma Australia https://lnkd.in/gdezXX8
