🙌 Help Para Rowing Foundation celebrate an epic achievement by 4 high school athletes in Washington DC! Para Rowing Foundation is a non-profit with a global mission; to power athletes with impairments around the world to fulfil their potential through rowing by creating access, opportunities and inclusion. We can only fund initiatives through the generous donations of supporters like you. How delighted were we then to recieve notice that a group of non-para rowers in the States decided to do something epic to support para rowing… and PRF were selected as the fundraising beneficiary. ‘Epic’ looked like a 24-hour session on the rowing machine in 1-hour shifts, live-streamed. ‘Epic’ looked like more than a third-of-a-million metres covered, non-stop. ‘Epic’ looked like $3,450 raised through their supporters, way beyond their $2k target. ‘Epic’ looked like 2 super-subs on hand to step in when needed in order to keep that erg spinning for a full day, Ethan Puckett and Brandon Lo. The young crew (some of which had never met beforehand) overcame mental, physical and even electrical challenges (a power cut midway demanded neighbours to get creative by running power cables down the street!) and stayed motivated enough to complete the job. PRF’s Chair got straight onto a vcall with 3 of the crew to hear the story first-hand and was blown away by their experience, achievement and desire to support para rowing. “Truly epic! It was the first time these guys took on such an endurance rowing challenge but I don’t think it’ll be the last. We’re honoured that they chose to support para athletes through work of PRF. We’ll put the funds they raised to work right away!” -🟢 Steven Dowd, Executive Chair, PRF Join PRF in congratulating and thanking: 👏Ethan Smith of Langley Crew 👏Dillan Pakes of Warhawk Crew 👏Liam Ballew of Warhawk Crew 👏Justin Blagrove of Wakefield Crew Do you have an epic fundraising idea you’d like to share? Would you like to support para athletes globally through the work of PRF? Please let us know at info@pararowingfoundation.org. #ParaRowing #CharityChallenge #Fundraising

The Tour du Lunsar defines the raw beauty of African cycling. Outside of all the work being done by so many great organizations throughout the continent, this amazing grassroots race exemplifies what can be done when passionate people, people who simply love cycling, come together and unite forces. When we worked in Rwanda, we had a phrase: #teamisteam. We all work together, and that includes Team Africa Rising helping our friends in Sierra Leone. Year over year, the Tour du Lunsar has grown and now attracts cyclists from Nigeria, the US, and the UK. But most of all, it is the race Sierra Leonean cyclists live for each year. This is THEIR race! This year has been a struggle with losing a major sponsor, and some of that money has been found with a generous large donation and the ongoing GoFundMe campaign, but here’s the reality: The race budget is $42,840 of which $22,120 is confirmed and an additional $9,450 pending (expecting confirmation). That leaves an outstanding balance of $11,340. That’s where the GoFundMe campaign comes into play. Like most of the US and UK, inflation has taken a huge bite out of the available currency. It is no different in Sierra Leone, probably worse. We need your help. Keep this race a reality -- this beautiful, raw, grassroots source of joy and pride to Sierra Leone. #africarising #makeadifference #sierraleone

What do you know about Ultra Running? In 2022, I met limo kipkemoi, an ultra running #architect who in his free time rans up mountains, valleys, across deserts and any terrain possible. This guy once ran across all 47 Counties in Kenya... (Covid-19 time). He also organizes these runs, even though it is an individual target, the Ultra Runners do it as a community. And yes, there is a vibrant ultra running community in Kenya. I digress. Limo promised he would take up a cervical cancer elimination challenge. He wanted to do 10 summits in 4 days. To raise money and support free screening, for at least 5000 women. In 2022 December, he took time out of his crazy busy schedule, to attempt the 10 Summits. He ran up Mt. Kenya, up and down, different routes, non stop - only taking short breaks for meals, and a shorter snooze. December weather up the mountain is not the best, wet, slippery and just plain simple dangerous. The December weather was not in his favour. It poured heavily, he got soaked to his skin - literally - and his feet bore the blunt of it. Soaked, blistered and just painful to watch. But Limo was not to be deterred. He had a team of fellow runners who were supporting him in what others termed ultra madness. He still wanted to continue even with hurting feet. We implored, cajoled and begged that he would stop, for his feet's sake. We eventually prevailed, and he agreed to stop. A total of 5 summits, times in 2.5 days done! In his own words - "it is a DNF, but we shall revisit"... So. What do you know about Ultra Runners? They are long distance runners, that have a high level of endurance, strength, and mental fortitude. I witnessed this first hand, yesterday all day, (and today morning they are still at it), Running at a fast pace - doing 6.7KM every hour. 220 Runners started at 8.00 yesterday at the Nairobi Ultra Marathon. The race is still ongoing, we still have runners doing this challenge today morning, 28 hours later. I will be posting here about my interactions with them yesterday - watch out for the 3rd post. My 2nd post is about the funds that Limo raised in 2022 Dec, and what we did with it in 2023. But in the meantime, head on to twitter and see what we posted in 2022 Dec see link below. Our X handle is @KILELEHealthKE and you can also follow Limo's escapades on @Limo_kipkemoi https://lnkd.in/dwkT3iEK

💚Celebrating $30 Billion (yes, Billion with a B!) raised on GoFundMe and Classy 💚 If you're like me and need some visuals to better grasp just how much 30 Billion is, check these out: 🔴 An Olympic sized swimming pool can hold about 2.4 Billion M&M's so 30B is more than 12 swimming pools filled with M&M's 🔵 It takes about 15 Billion hockey pucks to reach the moon so you could reach the moon... and back ⚪ If you did a jumping jack every second, it would take over 950 years to reach 30B jumping jacks Overall 30 Billion is BIG and we're excited to see the collective efforts across the globe on GoFundMe and Classy. Whether for charity, a family member, or your friends Little League team, every dollar counts and each person CAN make a difference. While repping jumping jacks for the next 950 years is impossible for one person, if every single person in the world did 3-4 jumping jacks at the same time, we could hit 30 Billion collectively in just a few seconds. So who are you doing your jumping jacks for today? #helpers

MEET THE TEAM! We're entering a team into this year's UK Challenge raising money for www.beefysfoundation.org As they are in the midst of some intensive training 😉 let's shine a light on them and celebrate their dedication and commitment to winning. Today's team member is John Hanson, we asked him a few questions so you can get to know a bit about him... 1. Why did you decide to do the UK Challenge? To ensure Chris Luckham OBE survives the challenge(he’s looking a bit chunky these days) – patrol medic certificate is packed. 2. What are you looking to get. out of it? A free hydration kit and friends for life! 3. Which bits excits and scare you the most? Watching Chris try do a brain puzzle – should be an interesting study for the follow on to Sapiens! 4. What training are you doing for the event? Cycling/running. 5. What other 'challenge' do you like doing in your spare time? Camel tracking and surfing.
