How Can you offer your child support on Post Secondary choices? Talk with your children. Start asking questions like this when they’re still in high school: 1️⃣ What do you like to do? How would you like to spend your days? In what kind of environments? 2️⃣ What career or job opportunities are there in that area? How easy or hard is it to connect with these opportunities? 3️⃣ How feasible would it be to pursue this option? What would the challenges be? Research the educational and/or training options and what they will cost. Start discussing, researching, and imagining the possibilities early—grade 12 tends to be much too late! For transitioning teachers… Teaching children and adolescents is a lot like working with college kids, except with 1000x more legal requirements, ramifications and stressors. For hiring managers and recruiters… If you are interviewing a transitioning teacher, consider the fact that those candidates likely have more experience than anyone at your company mitigating and assessing risk, project managing to limit even the near appearance of impropriety, and, simultaneously, actually caring about stakeholders (students and their families.)

Career Strategist - Recruiter - Human Resource Consultant: Helping people and organizations find success
Your student is 1:325 when it comes to support from a counselor in making career decisions. Skills Lab can make them 1:1.
Skills Lab was founded partly to provide more resources to graduating seniors (HS or College) making career decisions. It was clear, from parents and the stats, that counselors are stretched thin and it's impossible to reach each student to help make these life-altering decisions about college, career, and jobs. If you have a student facing graduation in the next year, check out our student services at www.skillslabtraining.com. https://lnkd.in/gwC3_Fnb

Optimizing College Tours for Your Child’s Future Success Every parent wants the best for their child's education, and visiting colleges is a critical step in that journey. It can be an exciting yet daunting task, filled with countless questions and considerations. To make the most of these visits, plan ahead. Schedule tours, information sessions, and meetings with admissions counselors. Prepare a list of questions focusing on academics, campus life, housing, and financial aid. Encourage your child to interact with current students to get an insider's perspective. Take your time exploring the campus facilities, including libraries, dorms, dining halls, and recreational areas. Pay attention to the support services offered, such as tutoring centers and career counseling. After each visit, debrief with your child to capture their thoughts and feelings while they're fresh. This collaborative approach will ensure you both have a clear understanding of what each college has to offer. #LampertEducationalResources #AffordCollege #CollegeVisits #EducationPlanning #CollegeTips

Good to know
Despite media reports to the contrary, recent political and social unrest on college campuses is not expected to impact recruiting, with employers who responded to a recent NACE Quick Poll overwhelming saying it will not impact their fall recruiting plans, and student activism does not play a role in hiring decisions. https://ow.ly/NAAQ50T9Q6r

As Tennessee’s economy continues to boom, more than 60 percent of our jobs require a postsecondary credential, but less than 50 percent of Tennesseans have one. How can we expand students' opportunities for jobs in Tennessee and meet our workforce needs? Education-employer partnerships provide benefits to students and businesses. SCORE spent months researching these partnerships and meeting with partners involved in them. Don’t tell grad schools what they can do for you, tell them what YOU can do for THEM. Schools of Social Work often ask applicants why they are interested in pursuing their particular MSW program. They ask this question because they are looking for you to show alignment and potential to contribute to the program in a meaningful way. And one mistake I often see applicants make is talking about how the program will benefit THEM instead of the other way around. They’ll say “It’s a top university” or “an MSW will qualify me for a higher paying job” ❌️ this misses the mark. Instead of talking about how an MSW will benefit you, talk about how an MSW will allow you to serve others. Instead of talking about how the school is a “great program”, talk about how your goals align with the specializations they offer and how you will bring a unique perspective to the program. Make it about them – not you.

"You can't squeeze blood from a turnip" My dad's legacy lives within the remnants of life lessons taught through phrases like this. When I did a google search on what this phrase really means - it means that you cannot get money from someone who doesn't have it. I always thought it was more than this... I would argue that you can't get quality work from someone who is burnt out. You can't ask someone to do a job without support that they don't have the skill for yet. You can't expect perfection with sub-quality materials. Can you come up with others? Students in transition to higher education spaces may be trying to "squeeze blood from a turnip" if... -they don't have college educated parents to guide them through the hidden curriculum - they have a disability that makes different learning tasks difficult -they didn't learn good study skills in high school Getting supports to equal the playing field is something that we, as educators, can advocate for - summer bridge programs, specialized supports for students with different needs, destigmatizing supports and request for accommodations, and making sure that these offices are fully staffed and appropriately trained so that when I student has a need they can get that need met. #OccupationalTherapy #StudentSuccess #TheCollegeOT
