Did you know that 80% of apprentices in the Red Seal “Cook” program do NOT complete their certification?… read that stat again.. 80%. That figure is over 40% for most other trades on average. (Source: Canadian Apprenticeship Forum) The federally funded FIRST (Fostering Inclusion in Red Seal Trades) program through CCRW has just been approved to help apprentices facing barriers or disabilities to completion can help to significantly improve these dismal completion levels on a National level.

Time: Approximately 2 Hours Welcome to the Competitive Integrated Employment for People with Physical Disabilities Training, part of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services training focused on increasing Competitive Integrated Employment in Wisconsin. People with physical disabilities can overcome employment obstacles and obtain the benefits of employment. Next week the NSITE team is attending not one but 2 conferences to spread the news about training, job placement and more for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). First, our parent, National Industries for the Blind (NIB)’s conference, gives us an opportunity to meet with other non-profits, vocational rehabilitation directors and decision-makers who turn to NSITE for skills training, job placement and ongoing professional development for those who face vision loss. As a one-stop shop, NSITE is also spending time at the M-Enabling Summit, which promotes accessible technologies and environments. Fortunately. both conferences will be hosted in our neighborhood in adjacent hotel/conference spaces. Clearly, there’s an interest and desire to employ those who are blind or have low-vision and this month represents the perfect time to turn an eye toward connecting with like-minded organizations. As part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we're spotlighting the on-demand course “Better Encounters: Police and People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)”.   Developed by our Learning Partners the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA and the National Center for Policing Innovation (NCPI), in collaboration with local public safety practitioners, self-advocates, and members of the I/DD community, this course enhances law enforcement professionals’ ability to recognize and support individuals with I/DD during traffic stops and other exchanges in the community.   Here's what people are saying about this course:   “The traffic stop videos were really impactful.
