Lift as you climb — it's a fundamental part of being an ally and a co-conspirator. When you find yourself in a position of power — maybe you're negotiating a partnership or you're in demand for a panel or project — use this opportunity to support others.
Your inclusion rider can be as simple as "I'd love to join the panel, but I have a standing requirement that there must also be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander speaker on any panel I do" or it can be as complex as a form your organisation sends out that asks any potential supplier or partner to vouch that they have a RAP, an ethical labour policy or an intersectionality strategy.
Obviously, you need to be in a position to follow through — willing to lose that spot on the panel or go with a different supplier. But when we make space for others to join us, we make ripples that might lead to a watershed change.
Have you implemented an inclusion rider in the past? What was in it?
