📣 Our new State of Global Policy Report is out! We are pleased to share that the #alternativeproteins sector enjoyed game-changing developments and commitments from governments and regulators in 2023, as the public sector across geographies stepped up to the alternative proteins funding plate! 🌍 Altogether, GFI estimates that newly announced global public funding for alternative proteins in 2023 amounted to $523 million, while the all-time investment totals to $1.67 billion. As the report indicates - governments play a critical role in unlocking the full climate and economic benefits of alternative protein in the years to come. 📈 Within Israel specifically, the public sector is a leader in driving regulatory frameworks for alternative proteins, notably with regulator’s approval of Remilk's fermentation-based dairy protein and the world’s first regulatory approval of a cultivated beef product by Aleph Farms. 🏆 Unique to this year’s policy report is a “Policy Menu,” delineating the various policy mechanisms that countries can implement to support alternative proteins. From research grants to loans to tax rates, there is a vast toolkit that policymakers can employ to drive this critical sector forward to create a more #sustainable global food system. "It's not nice to fool mother nature!" Remember the old Chiffon Margarine commercial? How true that adage was, as studies proved in the 1990's just how dangerous trans-fats in margarine, shortening and processed foods were to our health. And yet, we are repeating the same mistakes, assuming that lab grown "meat" is somehow healthy for us and the environment. As the article points out, studies have already demonstrated that lab grown meats produce up to 25 times more carbon emissions than feedlot raised meat, and don't even take into account the carbon reduction capabilities of grass-fed, regenerative beef production. There are no studies on the human health consequences of eating lab grown meat. Do you really want you and your family to be the lab rats for this experiment?

🚀 Important news in agriculture: The Food 2030 Report unveils a game-changing narrative for Africa's food landscape! 🌍 This comprehensive initiative not only shapes the future of #R&I policies under #HorizonEurope, the #farm-to-fork strategy, the #EuropeanGreenDeal but also outlines eleven strategic pathways for action, where cutting-edge research and innovation can tangibly deliver co-benefits across crucial domains. 🔍 Our coordinator, Dr. Gertrud Buchenrieder from Bundeswehr University Munich had the honor of contributing during a workshop to the Topic 9 " Food Systems Africa", where INCiTiS-FOOD is mentioned as relevant R&I project working toward the overall EU-AU goals. With the novel idea! The role of the CaSunDX exchange would be to provide a platform for the coordination and facilitation of localized governance initiatives in public health and agriculture. It would serve as a central hub for sharing best practices, data, and resources to support community-based interventions and sustainable agricultural practices. The exchange would aim to promote collaboration between local, regional, and national stakeholders, fostering a network of expertise and knowledge exchange. Additionally, the CaSunDX exchange could provide capacity-building support to empower local communities with the tools and resources necessary to oversee public health and agricultural initiatives effectively. This platform would play a vital role in bridging the gap between localized governance efforts and national oversight, ensuring that regional initiatives align with broader public health goals and agricultural sustainability objectives. Removing the pharmaceutical, and the agricultural industry is control over our lives back to our communities! MWM

🌱 Reflecting on the thought-provoking discussions at the European Food Forum event I attended on March 21st! 🌍 It was incredibly inspiring to engage with fellow stakeholders on the challenges and opportunities surrounding protein production and consumption within the EU. 💡 We delved into the importance of diversifying protein sources for a more sustainable food system, with fascinating insights into precision fermentation and laboratory cultivation. 🌾 What struck me most was the emphasis on the role of Common Agricultural Policy instruments in promoting EU protein crop production, alongside the need to ensure profitability to attract farmer investment. 🚜 Engaging with farmers directly, and encouraging public investment in agri-food innovation, emerged as vital themes throughout the discussions. 🌱 And of course, the call for increased research and innovation funding to support sustainable protein production was loud and clear. 🌿 It's clear that strategic dialogue and collaborative exploration of alternative approaches are key to advancing the EU food value chain sustainably.
