Awesome short (15m) interview about a forthcoming update report to 2019 AACRAO research on #CPL, #PLA, #PLAR #RPL, #VPL (pick your acronym), focused on messy #portfolio approaches.
This is just Credit for Prior Learning, which I find a bit narrow, even within an academic context (lots of other purposes for recognition)...
...but there's lots of great stuff and I can't wait for the report.
The big TIL for me is Jon Calderwood's suggestion about actually developing and credentialing faculty in their roles as Advisors and Assessors for #RPL. They're far and away the key actors in HE, but currently, over 60% have no formal training. Jon suggests that insitutions could start reporting faculty PD as a KPI for academic quality to accreditors. I suggest that accreditors could start asking for it... 8->
Food for thought for the upcoming #VPLBiennale in Ireland and for us up here in Canada, as #CAPLA, Canada's counterpart to CAEL, prepares for a pan-Canadian scan of PD for #RPL. NB: Andy Brown, Bonnie Kennedy and others on the Credentialing and Certification committee.
Finally, kudos to Noah Geisel for his ongoing role as a tireless whisperer for #alternativecredentials #digitalbadges #openbadges. Now with #PLA. Will Jon be at the The Badge Summit @ CU Boulder, I wonder?
Innovative credentials are here to stay, but what is your institution's culture around prior learning assessments and innovative credentials? Addressing your institution's existing culture around prior learning could help you decide your next move. View Monday's episode of Credential Chats featuring guest Jon Calderwood, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at Mott Community College, for a recap of some of the wisdom he shared at the 109th AACRAO Annual Meeting.
