Empowering Children Through Education & Well-being: Education: Through our "Out of School" project, we've successfully reintegrated children back into the education system, equipping them with the skills to thrive. Hygiene & Well-being: We've tackled period stigma and ensured girls' continued education through hygiene workshops and sanitary pad distribution. Overcoming Challenges: During the pandemic, JUWEDI provided vital relief materials to rural schools, helping children return to classrooms and navigate disruptions. These are just a few examples of how JUWDI empowers children. We believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential! Let's Champion Children Together! Dads: Lifelong Learners Shaping the Future CIVOM is celebrating the evolving role of dads all through this month to commemorate Father’s Day! Tanishq's ad, "Fathers, Written by Daughters," beautifully shows dads learning alongside their daughters. The traditional image of dads as simply the fix-it guys is evolving. Today, they're champions of change, encouraging open communication and calculated risks – essential skills for the modern world. Lifelong learning is important. Fathers who embrace this with their daughters send a powerful message: growth is essential. But fatherhood extends beyond daughters. As Connor Beaton says, "A father's ability to regulate his own nervous system and anger response will be the baseline example of how a boy learns to regulate himself and defines what girls will come to expect from men." Fathers can challenge stereotypes by expressing emotions and creating open communication with sons. This promotes emotional literacy, crucial for healthy relationships. How can we take action? • Open Dialogue: Encourage open communication with your children, regardless of gender. • Lifelong Learning Together: Explore new hobbies or activities together. • Challenge Biases: Reflect on your own values and adapt to better support your child's dreams. The heartbreaking news about Latoya Temilton (12), who drowned while on a leadership camp under the care of #QueenstownPrimarySchool took me right back to the tragic, untimely passing of #EnochMpianzi while on camp under the care of #ParktownBoysHigh. Both, leaning towards negligence, both, despite how much we post on #socialmedia and seek accountability, have left two families devastated. I then went to do a quick search on the death of Enoch, which almost 4 years ago, the organization I was affiliated with raised their voice, advocating for accountability, calling for Malcom Williams who was the principal at the time drowning happened to be held accountable, and for resources to be allocated to support the family and friends of Enoch, to process the tragedy. At the bare minimum for investigations to be thoroughly conducted. The last post in the news was in 2021. Life went on. Here were are again, 4 years late, another child dead (and many more in the years past, while in school care) on school camps, under the care of teachers, as a result of slack safeguarding measures in schools, as a direct result of poor mental health support, bullying, drug abuse, amongst other plagues that prey on our children. So many organizations and individuals continue to #advocate for deliberate child protection, and we immediately think, because children are being abused. Yes that's a reality, in the literal sense of physical abuse, but children are falling through the gaps, devoured by negligence, snuffed out by mental health issues, preyed on by bullies. The few organizations doing good work around child protection have very few, very minimal, and very uncertain resources, they depend on a volatile donor environment and here the Government goes, still cutting much needed funds under the Department of social development towards causes like child care and child protection. I am sad for Latoya's family, who today have to wonder why the teachers did not respond when students said their child was in danger in the water. Mostly I am sad because unless we strengthen legislation on child protection, unless #schools are deliberate about making their environments safe for students, unless these teachers in this instance are held accountable, unless the students that witnessed Latoya fight for her life, and the subsequent events thereafter, are provided with adequate #psychosocial support, this will be just another child who drowned on a school trip (x)number of years ago. We need to do better, for our #children , schools need to be #safespaces again. We trust teachers with our children and yet we also fear one day it might be our own #child , or a child we know personally that is injured or whose life is cut short. Lets continue to advocate for schools to be made space, for #accountability to be strengthened not only in the face of tragedy but as a standard. #childprotection #officeofthechildprotector https://lnkd.in/djVzsPA2

It shows our children that setbacks can be overcome with determination. 5️⃣ Fostering Respect: Children respect fathers who stand by their word. Accountability instills a sense of respect for oneself and others, creating a positive family dynamic. Let's recognize that our accountability shapes not only our lives but the legacy we leave for our children. Fathers stand a continuous risk of been absent from the lives of their children. In a study conducted by the academy, it was discovered that a child who leaves home at eighteen years spends about three years (36 months) physically with the father which is four hours daily. The time varies with city and work culture. That is about 16.6% of the time such a child spends at home. Fathers need to be deliberate so these times of physical togetherness can count or else it will just pass without any appreciable level of connection. The time is shorter for children who leave for boarding school in JSS 1. If fathers are not deliberate about connecting, our children will leave home unprepared and that will surely affect them negatively in later years and ultimately the society.
