We’re pleased to announce the launch of the Global Media Index for Africa, a tool we’ve developed in partnership with Africa No Filter and researchers at the University of Cape Town to track the quality of news reporting on Africa from the 20 most circulated news publications in the world. The index examines the performance of each organization against a set of important factors–diversity of sources, topics covered, countries, and depth of coverage–to develop a comprehensive score that captures the extent to which we believe their reporting in and about Africa is representative of the realities of contemporary life on the continent. Everything Depends on Africa, here's how: The world is increasingly becoming a global village. An important element of globalisation is information fluidity. This is the idea that everyone in the world wants to know everything happening everywhere in the world. With this in mind, it is thus becoming increasingly evident that Africa is winning the hearts of everyone in the information fluidity contest. And for a good reason. For one, Africa bears the largest chunk of arable land, largest deposits of natural resources, the youngest and most promising population and above all the best opportunity to conquer the future of the world. And just like a contest among suitors gunning for the heart of an extraordinarily beautiful bride our continent has caught the attention of everyone. How can we channel this attention positively, internally and externally, for the best possible outcome for our continent and the well being of our people.
