They say the fish rots from the head down… Did you know that around 35% of employees who have experienced workplace toxicity cite the behaviours of managers and leadership as top contributing factors? I once worked in a business that was so wretchedly top-down toxic that the employees would openly refer to themselves as Zombies – totally disengaged, uninspired, uncommunicative and ‘working’ pay day to pay day, it was a tough place to be – and the damage was visible and costly. That business had a near 80% employee attrition rate over any 24-month period, struggled to attract and retain quality talent and had unfeasibly low rates of customer retention. And the list of 10 contributing behaviours, outlined on page 4 of our report, were all in evidence – if you’re feeling stuck in a toxic environment don’t wait for or expect a change to arrive, be bold enough to make the change yourself and find a business that deserves and respects you, there are plenty out there!
