📣 #UICrail was in Korea last week for several events, notably its 36th Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, the 22nd UIC Asia-Pacific Management Committee (APMC), the UIC - KORAIL Workshop on Best Practices of High-Speed Line Operation in Asia-Pacific, and the first Scientific Committee of the UIC High-Speed Congress planned to be held in Beijing in 2025. ➡️ All these meetings were organised at the invitation of KORAIL as part of the celebrations for the 20th #anniversary of the HSR in Korea, bringing together UIC members from the Asia Pacific region as well as from Europe and the USA. ➡️ In addition to the warm welcome, it is worth noting the special attention given by Korail to UIC members and the interest in the technical and cultural visits. In his report, UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee emphasised the importance of UIC's work on #standardisation with the support of the region, and the strong #commitment of regional members to develop regional projects. Key messages delivered by UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee, and UIC Director General François DAVENNE, also highlighted the global challenges and opportunities in rail transport, focusing on decarbonisation, digitalisation, and safety culture. ➡️ The project activities of APRA were presented by Philippe Lorand, Coordinator of the UIC Asia-Pacific region. 🚄 The workshop on High-Speed Line Operation in the Asia-Pacific region tied in with the 20-year anniversary of high-speed lines in Korea. Key messages were delivered by Eungdae Lee, Deputy Director, International Cooperation Department, KORAIL Bertrand MINARY, UIC Passenger Director, Coordinator of the UIC Middle-East & Latin America regions. The workshop was very enriching, both in terms of the topics covered and the cross-discussions between Asia, Europe, and other regions. Baoshi HUO, Chair, UIC Intercity & High-Speed Committee and Director of the Science Technical and IT Application Department of Chinese Railways (CR) introduced the worldwide status and trends for HSL development. 🙌 The meetings were testament to the importance of #collaboration and shared #development within the UIC APRA region. #governance #HighSpeed #Cooperation #Innovation #Passenger

The designated College of Commissioners: a promising opportunity for competitiveness and sustainable development. With the new designated College of Commissioners unveiled, the next five years could offer a unique chance to boost competitiveness while advancing sustainable development across industries. A positive sign for the maritime industry is the appointment of Greek Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas for Transport and his future collaboration with Italian designated Vice-President Raffaele Fitto. They both come from two great maritime nations. ⚓ In the mission letter to the new Transport Commissioner, several key themes for the maritime sector have been outlined: 1️⃣ A European Industrial Maritime Strategy aligned with the Draghi Report, focusing on innovation and competitiveness; 2️⃣ Development of a European Ports Strategy, ensuring modernization, sustainability, and global connectivity; 3️⃣ A commitment to leadership in the IMO (International Maritime Organization), representing Europe’s voice in shaping global maritime regulations; 4️⃣ Strengthening of the TEN-T networks, which include the essential European Maritime Space, a key pillar of Europe’s transport infrastructure. While challenges remain, these priorities suggest that we’re on the right path to ensuring a competitive and sustainable future for the maritime sector. #MaritimeIndustry #Sustainability #EUCommission #Transport #Ports #Innovation #TEN_T #IMO #GreenShipping #FutureOfShipping #Competitiveness #DraghiReport #MaritimeSpace
