Very important not only to undertake epidemiology on new strains that have emerged to sufficient prevalence to come to the notice of epidemiologists but also to understand microbiology and contact microbiologists to note what new strains are described and have threat potential before they cause outbreaks. Human to human transmission potential as well as animal to human transmission is important. Woudl a monkeypox strain with virulence factors for smallpox e.g. human to human transmission in cell culture have rung alarm bells before human to human transmission started?????

It’s a bit Greek to me all this epidemiology, Since Hippocrates described seasonal disease, And things that happen when you’ve indulged sexually, Or maybe eaten some beef and it caused some mischief, Even now, this science is at the core, Of detecting and preventing outbreaks before, They settle in and become endemic, And we just have to get used to it.
