Measles is one of many interesting diseases, For an epidemiologist to write some poetic phrases, We’ve tried to rid ourselves of this problem, Using a vaccine that also targets Rubella and Mumps, The R number tells part of the story, We know it’s infectious and its why we worry, The other bit questions how it breaks through here, Cause humans are Measles’ only reservoir, And vaccination while good, doesn’t last forever, Which means this is really about susceptibility. And how this undermines our ability, To keep a tight grip on this terrible disease, Vaccination uptake here is the key, Among those that spread it most frequently, Which is why vaccinating children is essential, To our strategy to reduce the worrying potential, For Measles to gain more than a foothold, And overwhelm our nation’s healthcare system, So if you want your taxes to make a difference, To do more than just pay to treat avoidable illness, To help our country compete in a competitive world better, Get your children vaccinated when they’re invited, And play your part in this Kingdom United.
