Director of the Institute for Social Capital and President of the International Social Capital Association
I look forward to presenting at the New Zealand Association for Impact Assessment NZAIA conference in October. I will discuss how the concept of social capital can provide a different lens for understanding social impacts. Since social capital is inherently framed as capital, which provides future benefits and returns, it focuses attention on the benefits and importance of sociability, allowing for the evaluation of those factors that have the most impact on people and communities. #socialcapital #impactassessment
We are excited to announce that Tristan Claridge, President of the International Social Capital Association will be speaking at the NZAIA conference at Chateau on the Park - Christchurch, a DoubleTree by Hilton on 22 October 2024 on connecting the challenges: new insights on #ImpactAssessment from a social capital perspective. The reconnaissance of valuable intangible cultural practices recognized by UNESCO is unique, particularly highlighting the cultural potential of the night 🌃 Opportunities for future exploration could include addressing light pollution and examining non-human factors that shape the urban night—like their smell, sound, motion, and interactions between species and physical environment. Not to mention the reception of the arts while the others go to bed. Additionally, future inquiries could consider participation in nighttime cultural activities concerning age, gender, economic status and audience development policies. It's exciting to anticipate such intriguing initiatives as 24HourNation, Cities After Dark by URBACT.

Congrats to Berlin that saw its techno culture added by UNESCO to the intangible cultural heritage list. The designation is not only meant to protect this urban cultural tradition but also to recognize the need for supporting a sector which accounts for a considerable part of the city attractiveness. In April Berlin will host the first study visit of the URBACT network Cities After Dark, that will deep dive into the integrated model of governance of night-time economy implemented by Berlin with the Clubcommission Berlin e.V.. The study visit will go through some of the most interesting clubs and organizations which are driving the debate on night-time economy and night culture in the German capital. The network meeting in Berlin will also be an interesting opportunity for discussing the importance of UNESCO's designation, which globally recognizes for the first time night cultures as a treasure to preserve and valorize 24HourNation
