Today I was a panelist during the state of the art panel session for Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs) during the 15th World Conference on Injury prevention and safety promotion at Taj Palce Hotel in New Delhi. India. I was talking about the PTWs existing and emerging research gaps especially in the context of sub-Saharan Africa, they are numerous! As we do traffic engineering research to promote safety, we need to remember that causes of crashes are numerous and also include:social, cultural, economic, mental health, business model, political, age among others that need to be tackled. Data is important as an introduction to policy makers and implementers who can benefit by using the information to inform their decision that affects motorcycle safety outcomes in the society. Governance is key! How are PTWs governed in SSA?
