Underwater Majesty | Seamounts of the Southeast Pacific - Week 3 - Schmidt Ocean Institute via YouTube: Colossal underwater mountains lie far beneath the surface of the ocean, harboring abundant biodiversity. Using ROV SuBastian as our robotic guide, scientists on the #SEPacificSeamounts expedition are studying these seamounts, some of the most under-explored in the world. Chile is leading the effort to establish one of the first high-seas marine protected areas along the Salas y Gomez Ridge, and the data collected during the expedition will contribute to this critical effort. These oases in the deep Ocean harbor many species that can only be found here. https://lnkd.in/eD7UZ-eg

#WorldWhaleDay brings awareness to the critical importance of protecting whales. Accidental collisions between ships and whales are an international concern. 🐋 🚢 ❗ The WSC Whale Chart offers seafarers critical navigational coordinates and concise graphics to identify routing measures and areas subject to static speed restrictions designed to protect whales and other cetaceans. This unique navigational aid is to help all navigators. Together, can help reduce ship strikes and safeguard endangered whale populations across the globe. Do your part to protect whales by sharing and downloading the WSC whale chart: https://lnkd.in/dfiGtctU Great Whale Conservancy ifaw Whale Guardians™ International Maritime Organization

A message from Captain Paul Watson: We don't need a #WorldOceansDay. Dedicating just one day dedicated to the ocean is not enough. The ocean, covering over 70% of our planet, is the lifeblood of Earth, regulating climate, providing oxygen, and sustaining countless species. However, human activities are pushing it to the brink, and the situation is only getting worse. Governments and corporations must be held accountable. Celebrating World Oceans Day does not excuse them from decades of negligence nor does it atone for their continuing failure to protect our oceans, and these failures affect everyone. Ocean conservation must become a global priority. Time is quickly running out for the world’s oceans and the life they sustain. That’s why direct action is crucial, and the reason why the Captain Paul Watson Foundation and Neptune’s Navy have been established. We are setting sail this month to prevent the slaughtering of endangered fin whales in Iceland for #OpIceStorm, and have more direct-action campaigns coming this year. We need your support. Help us protect the oceans by supporting our campaigns and mission: https://lnkd.in/geb5SF7Q IF THE OCEAN DIES, WE DIE. #ITODWD

After an intense survey of the area, the comrades realized that retracing their steps was still their best option. Around them, there was only muddy swampland, with deep furrows, marshy ditches, and water-filled channels crisscrossing the area. Then we'll have to build a road said Robin, pointing directly to the spot where they had struggled the truck through the marshy stream. Okay, let's separate the boys from the men and get started replied the lieutenant. Luckily, there is this plastic drainage pipe they would need and whatever pieces of wood were still left, as some had been swallowed up by the ground without a trace. And today, it would be the same: digging, digging, and more digging. But the Deltaforce team was motivated, uplifted by yesterday's success. The most significant challenge in the past few days, apart from the physical strain, was the mental stress. It wasn't clear until the last moment whether they would really manage to free the truck. Encouraged by their triumph from the previous day, they pushed on with vigor. It wasn't just the physical exertion they battled with; the mental strain was equally grueling. Until the very end, uncertainty loomed like a dark cloud over whether their efforts would liberate the trapped truck. It's a story of resilience and determination! The odds may be stacked against them, but this team is determined to overcome every obstacle in their path. Stay tuned as we follow their gripping journey to pave their way through the unforgiving wilderness! https://lnkd.in/exn9vjw4

Photo by @DaisyGilardini / Fur seals have an attitude from a young age. Of all the Antarctic and Subantarctic seals, the fur seal is the one that shows the most aggressive behaviour. Probably rightly so, as they were hunted almost to extinction by the early 20th century. The population has recovered today. During mating season, when the males are particularly aggressive, some areas are closed to tourism, to give the seals added protection and to avoid confrontations. Affected areas include some of the South Georgia Islands, such as Prion Island. #seal #SouthGeorgia #furseal #climatechange #climatechangeisreal

The Lewis Pugh Foundation invited us to translate their Antarctic Video's subtitles into spanish 🎥 🌊 🇦🇶 🦐 "To achieve #30x30, protecting 30% of the oceans by 2030, we must recognize the interconnectedness of our planet. From forests to fields and rivers to oceans, each ecosystems plays a vital role in supporting life on Earth. 🌊 #Antarctica [and the Southern Oceans] are the last to be touched by humans and the first ones we should protect. 🇦🇶 To protect the Southern Ocean is to protect #krill – the cornerstone of its ecosystem." 🦐 Learn more about it on our previous posts!
