The most insightful book l've read: 'Nature and The Human Soul; Cultivating Wholeness in a Fragmented World' Bill Plotkin. It's from a nature-based soulcentric perspective; all stages in life are important. From this perspective there are currently few true elders.
l don't think of elders as self-appointed. An ego/humancentric culture will destroy the elders first. For me, Thomas Berry was an elder. Joanna Macy is an elder. Michael Meade, Stephen Jenkinson, Bill Plotkin and Geneen Marie Haugen too. They are older, but eldering isn't always associated with age, ... which does bring possibility but takes a long time. It takes as much inner work as outer.
We live in a time when there have never been so many old, particularly in 'Western' cultures, but not elders. Some older sister crones and l met monthly in council for 2 years exploring elder, which included the voices of the 'more-than-human-world' as well as human in an animate world; rich. That voices of the 'others' are not included in conversations is part of the current problem.
'Tinkering' here and there doesn't address the current crisis in arrested human development. Nature and The Human Soul does. It offers a pathway for everyone to live fully in every stage of life.

The Elders is a council of wisdom of 12 ex Heads of State which meets regularly to reflect deeply on world events. This is a recent statement they put out relating to Israel. They also engage in a lot of behind the scenes dialogue where current leaders may not have access
I'm mindful of conversations I've been having recently about the collective nature of Elderhood, and the need for spaces for Elder wisdom to be relational and in service. Something I would love to see evolving and becoming more present in serving needs of future leaders. Let me know if you feel drawn to this, I am thinking about something coming together in 2024.

NATIONS GO WHERE THEIR LEADERS TAKE THEM.
TO END COLONIZATION IN AFRICA, AFRICAN LEADERS MUST LEAD THEIR NATIONS AWAY FROM THE COLONIAL MASTERS.

For it to remain relevant, the Global #RefugeeForum needs to rethink its structure and culture to respect and value refugee leadership, participation, and representation. It also needs to encourage and cultivate more honest and critical conversations that go beyond pledges and platitudes.

African leaders and their gimmickish way of life, so humiliating to me.
Instead of the Kenyan president, William Ruto, to hold a retreat (at least a day) with the protesting youths or their leaders/conveners, he’s here in church crying!!! Nah who cry help?
Create avenues for youths to make their voices heard, to make them know that they are important. Collate their reasons for protesting, make meaningful plans to fulfill them, implement the plans to the least, make governance admirable for them like Kenyatta did, the people’s voice is the voice of God.
At least, you are better than a president who is doing everything to stop the youths from exercising their human right but the Kenyan youths didn’t protest because you haven’t cried in church, they protested because the prices of common-man’s goods have skyrocketed, they protested because unemployment has increased, they protested because their income has reduced while you and your peers have increased your emoluments, they protested because they can’t see anything meaningful or any plan visible for a better or greater Kenya in the nearest future, they protested because they are tired of all the hardships you and your peers keep putting them on daily basis.
You were voted into power to make Kenya better than what your predecessors made it, to take her higher than where your predecessors left it, to make it a better place for all Kenyans. If you can’t do that, please resign. Don’t put your legs in a shoe you can’t carry and if you find yourself in such a situation, off the shoe!! Failure is just success telling you “not that way”.
How many of your manifesto goals have you achieved? How many of your campaign promises have you fulfilled? How many of your dreams (if any) for Kenya & Kenyans have you made a reality?
This is a lesson for all African leaders, don’t say it can’t happen, #NeverSayNever, we never thought it will happen (since 2020) in Niger, Mali, Sudan, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Gabon, and Chad. These are African nations that have “made peaceful change impossible” until “violent change caught them unaware”, I pray Nigeria never thread that path again in her history, may we not witness another military coup in Africa, Amen.
Kenyans deserves better so please, make that better a reality.
Africa deserves greatness so please, create that greatness as a leader.
A clarion call for all African leaders.
May Nigeria succeed, Amen.
May Kenya succeed, Amen.
May Africa thrive in the committee of nations, Amen.
