#NewbornScreening (NBS) is one of the most successful public health programs of all time, yet current limitations create a significant #equity challenge nationwide. It is unacceptable for a baby’s health outcomes to depend on their birth state. Political intervention is crucial to ensure equitable access to screening for all newborns. Lisa Kahlman, Executive Director of Public Policy and Public Affairs, calls on Congress to pass the Precision Medicine Answers for Kids Today Act to improve health outcomes for people living with rare and ultrarare diseases. NBS is one of the most effective and efficient interventions : early diagnosis allows for early treatment which in rare genetic disorders such as SMA (spinal muscular athropy) makes the difference between a normal life and death or severe disability.
