How do you decide whether to go into medicine or public health? To choose either, you clearly have to be motivated to help people. Those who choose public health have a desire to move from helping one individual at a time into looking upstream to see how to impact entire communities. If you're driven more toward prevention, and making change on a wide-scale, then public health may be the right choice for you. #MedicineVsPublicHealth #ChoosingYourPath #HelpingPeople #CommunityImpact

A transformational leader in Higher Education through empowering teams to work collaboratively to achieve exceptional outcomes | partnerships | public health | dietetics | food | education | leadership | healthcare
Really enjoyed this webinar today - Prof Jim McManus is such an honest, engaging and insightful speaker. Key take home messages for me also included: ➡️the importance of kindness, love & connectivity in society and their impact upon health ➡️how do we walk with, encounter & serve citizens..public health is about supporting and engaging with people to get involved & the importance of building & leveraging trust & demonstrating humility ➡️collaboration and collaborative leadership is a key part of the future
"A healthy public is a moral good in a civilised society." Earlier today we were joined by Professor Jim McManus for a fantastic discussion on health inequalities. Jim spoke to our Chief Executive, William Roberts, about how we need collaboration in public health, how we can build trust with communities who are sceptical of public health interventions, and why local government funding is vital to keeping us healthy and economically active. The talk will be available for our members to watch back - join us at https://lnkd.in/dTXtuMiC.

#NewbornScreening (NBS) is one of the most successful public health programs of all time, yet current limitations create a significant #equity challenge nationwide. It is unacceptable for a baby’s health outcomes to depend on their birth state. Political intervention is crucial to ensure equitable access to screening for all newborns. Lisa Kahlman, Executive Director of Public Policy and Public Affairs, calls on Congress to pass the Precision Medicine Answers for Kids Today Act to improve health outcomes for people living with rare and ultrarare diseases. Discover the potential impact of this policy in our blog: https://lnkd.in/epphMJFv
