We are not talking here about mobile phones used for social networks but medical and similar devices helping disabled people be integrated fully into society. You don't get to build something and then say "we no longer support it, and we don't care how you will handle yourself with the broken equipment". About a year ago I have read similar article about a different company gone bankrupt and blind people using their no longer supported tech. They are basically hoping it will work as long as it can, but when it breaks, you cannot just make an operation to remove them from their heads and put something else. It is not that simple. And it is like the one of the worst curses - get something to improve your life and then lose it for ever. I think there should be a mandate to support products until the users with the disabilities live, or make sure there is an upgrade path available and affordable to them. Otherwise this technology makes no sense in the long run and such companies should be prohibited to sell it. https://lnkd.in/dj8-NvJQ

A famous Stanford experiment known as the "Marshmallow Test" in 1972 attempted to understand a link between delayed gratification and positive life outcomes by offering children to make a choice between immediate rewards or larger ones if they waited. I wonder what the results would be if we conducted this experiment in this era with a small change. Instead of the marshmallow, we keep their smartphone on the table with complete access to Wifi. Interesting insights to look forward to if this study was done: Is self-regulation likely to be weaker now compared to before? Are we more impulsive now than before? How has our reward desirability evolved over the years?

Yesterday, I talked with my parents about Generation Z. My mom mentioned that experts believe kids nowadays view growing up with digital devices as normal. They think future generations will integrate technology into their lives even more closely. But I'm not sure about it! I've seen videos on TikTok where Gen Z people say they won't raise their kids on iPads alone. They believe it might stunt imagination and lead to bad behavior. A teenager named @gabesco even pleaded, "I need everybody else in my generation to promise that we are not going to raise iPad children. Please." I also saw a TikTok where someone talked about badly behaved Gen Alpha kids at a summer camp. She said, "We need to get it right and raise normal kids." Some teens think the generations after Gen Alpha will have more problems because of digitial devices. I belong to Gen Alpha and I believe kids should not be given devices for their independent usage (where they can choose what they watch or play) until 6 years of age. Many in Gen Z plan to keep their kids away from screens as much as possible. I am curious how it will work in the future. A lot may change with the growing role of AI in our lives. #generationz #digitalparenthood #raisingkids #techfreechildhood #genalpha #screentime #parentinginadigitalage #nurturingimagination #responsibletechuse #future

I recently did a small TikTok video about a talking measuring jug I got about five years ago. I haven't used it yet, so I thought it was high time to see if it still works. Spoiler alert: it does! And it got a few likes too. Little gadgets like this are pretty cool, especially if you have family or friends who are blind or have low vision. I think about seniors who still want to be independent in the kitchen. While we often associate tech with computers and AI, there are plenty of simple items like this that can make a big difference in someone's life. Hope you enjoy the video! #BlindCommunity #LowVision #Accessibility #InclusiveTech #AssistiveTechnology #AdaptiveTools #BlindAwareness #LowVisionLife #VisuallyImpaired #DisabilityAwareness #TechForGood #BlindSkills #Empowerment #BlindInnovation #InclusiveDesign #GenX #Blind #LondonLife

Technology, AI, iPads, and Computers is how our world works. The world we have now. Students need to know about this world and how to navigate it successfully. One of the common pushbacks is SCREEN TIME. Which has taken on a life of its own, and become a barrier to 1:1 device adoption for a lot of schools and parents. SCREEN TIME is an outdated problem and should be ditched. Here's a great video explaining one of the misconceptions. https://lnkd.in/guKF4W4u
Screens are NOT the reason kids need glasses 👀

As AI moves onto our phones and laptops, the significance of studies showing the percentage of teens who have used and/or regularly use GenAI is going to become meaningless. If we think the "Help Me Write" button in Google Docs is too tempting (@Ethan Mollick), the phone prompting certainly will be. This is especially true since it will help us write our "stories" in our "style." https://lnkd.in/e3c8-aD2
