After 18 months of negotiations and compromises, The Pact for the Future has been adopted by the member states of the United Nations with the intention to transform global governance and protect the needs of current and future generations. 🌍 https://buff.ly/4dgdsZd The Pact includes 5️⃣ 6️⃣ actions on issues including fostering peace and security, ending poverty and overcoming inequalities, tackling climate change and the protection of the planet, and turbo-charging action on the SDGs, including health SDG. Importantly it includes measures to respond to complex shocks including pandemics. There are many references to health across the Pact including acknowledgement of its role and impact on poverty and social cohesion. To move from aspiration to reality - action, coordination and investment in public services including in health will be critical. 2023 was a year full of challenges. But despite the unavoidable news about global warming, conflicts and inequality, there are reasons to be hopeful: ✔️ Deforestation in the Amazon dropped by almost half compared to 2022. ✔️ Work has advanced on a global treaty to end plastic pollution worldwide. ✔️ Solar energy has cut energy prices by 93% in the past decade and has become more accessible globally. ✔️ A greater number of girls are in school this year with more than 50 million girls enrolled since 2015. Maintaining optimism is crucial as we strive for a sustainable, safer, and fairer world. https://lnkd.in/guGZnJqp
