Plurality- a brilliantly devised platform harnessing AI to socialise anti-social media. I have a strong feeling that we’re going to be hearing more on this. Context- 2024, international year of elections, is marked by a sharp decline in social cohesion and ascendancy of fascism. Maybe democracies will keep authoritarianism at bay for another round. But democracies themselves are failing to deliver fairness and accountability. Or Trust. Decades of neoliberal policies resulting in corporate state capture have led to a failure of democracy to hold parties to account. But we’re stuck in a binary of political institutions failing to deliver or fascism turbocharged by antisocial media. But there might be an alternative to the misinformation rabbit hole offering plurality of thought. It’s not an alternative system for a better world, but a means to collectively help make that happen.

Interesting Pact for the Future out of the UN today: https://lnkd.in/gtQ5Jd3z ➕ I like seeing "safe and secure" listed separately. I would like it even better if we had universal consensus on disambiguating them. (Here's my suggestion: "Secure" means that the system works as designed, secure from intrusion/infiltration/unauthorized access; "Safe" means that the system AS DESIGNED is safe for individuals and society (and the planet, because we are inseparable.) I’d also like to see this for all and not just children. ➖ I dislike that we are institutionalizing and reifying "AI" as the unit of concern; digital technology is plenty harmful right now, "AI" or no. Can we not just say digital/digitized technology or something? I say this for many reasons. Creating this language will likely ultimately result in loopholes and semantic games in policy making and enforcement. ➖ Also IMO (ymmv) "interoperable data governance frameworks" tacitly validates personal information as currency. I'd love to see the UN come out with something more bold like working on worldwide consensus that personal information may not be sold or exchanged for consideration. Internet Safety Labs
