Developing countries face significant challenges in keeping up with the tremendous technological development seen in developed countries. These challenges include limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of skilled labor. One way for developing countries to keep up with technological development is through investment in education and training programs that focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. By providing their citizens with the skills and knowledge needed to work in these fields, developing countries can create a workforce that is capable of developing and implementing new technologies. Another strategy is to encourage foreign investment and partnerships with companies in developed countries. This can provide developing countries with access to the latest technologies and expertise, while also creating jobs and promoting economic growth. Finally, developing countries can leverage their unique strengths and resources to develop innovative solutions to local problems. For example, many developing countries have abundant natural resources that can be used to develop sustainable energy solutions or create new products. Overall, the key to keeping up with technological development for developing countries is to invest in education and training, encourage foreign investment and partnerships, and leverage local strengths and resources to develop innovative solutions.

The shift towards scaling up #renewableenergy (RE) and #energyefficiency (EE) have created opportunities to not only contribute to #climatchange mitigation but also generate other benefits like new jobs. The #worldbank regional study “The Disruptive Energy Transition and Opportunities for Job Creation in the Middle East and North Africa,” made possible by funding from #ESMAP and #CSF conducted evidence-based analytics and policy recommendations for unlocking the potential of direct, indirect and induced #greenjobs created through #cleanenergy transition. It consisted of two phases. The first phase analyzed the net employment impacts of RE and EE transition using the Clean Energy Employment Assessment (CEEAT) Tool created under the study and applied it to #Morocco, #Egypt, and #Yemen. The second phase analyzed strategies to develop the #greenskills needed for the millions of new jobs in RE and EE in #Morocco, #Egypt, and #Tunisia. This project was made possible by Tu Chi Nguyen and Dr. Ashok Sarkar, Ph.D. under the leadership of Paul Noumba Um, Husam Beides, and Erik Fernstrom.
