This is a portrait of Ulziy Sandag, 80, one of only 282 Dukha people. The Dukha, Mongolia's only Indigenous reindeer herders, live in remote taiga forests bordering the Tuva Republic in Siberia. The Dukha speak a variety of Tuvan, part of the Siberian Turkic language family. With 14 children, over 60 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, Ulziy is the progenitor of more than half the Dukha population. Ulziy values humanity above all: "I wish all people of the world to live in peace and harmony!" This image is part of the World in Faces photo project by Alexander Khimushin. By publishing these images, UNESCO celebrates the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, fostering a global community around Indigenous and traditional Peoples and their languages. #IndigenousPeoples #Indigenous #Mongolia #UNESCO #WeAreIndigenous
