French President Emmanuel Macron delivered one of the grand reflections and visions of our time on our common future as Europeans during his official visit to Germany this week. He called for: 💡 An enduring freedom and peace in an autonomous Europe based on the ability to defend ourselves against rival and enemy powers through a strong defense industry in Europe. We stand by Ukraine, fighting for their and our freedom. 💡Strong, green European economy to ensure we continue to be prosperous as a region, independent and focusing especially on artificial intelligence investments. We need to work together and double our efforts. 💡A Europe with less bureaucracy and rules, a Europe in which everyone benefits with special focus on less developed regions. 💡A Europe based on shared values, on freedom, friendship, justice, unity, cultural diversity, brotherhood. Not a supermarket for populists that want to take the money but not the free press or academic freedom. 💡A Europe that stands for humanism and democracy, where we treasure debate based on reason, facts and interests. MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN. Providing personal freedom, security and prosperity for the people is the duty of any political leadership. Free people in a prosperous and secure environment are what make a country or a region great. This - combined with avoiding a widespread “europessimism” - is what Hungary means with its motto “Make Europe Great Again.” For the six months from July 1 onward, Hungary will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Central European country will set the agenda for the bloc’s priorities and chair meetings throughout this period. While premature praise is not warranted, we should, however, recognize that the Hungarian motto of restoring greatness – ensuring freedom, prosperity and security for the people of Europe through hands-on measures amid the old continent’s declining global significance – is more than justified. https://lnkd.in/dhmcX3CD #europeanunion #hungary #presidency #makeeuropegreatagain.
